My 3-year old was looking grumpy. I said "Smile!" She gave me this terrible very fake smile. I looked away, and when I looked back she was rolling her eyes at me. 3 years old. I knew it would happen one day, but isn't 3 too young??!

What can I do next?

Does she watch Max & Ruby ever? My 4 year-old rolled his eyes at me one day and I asked him where he learned it - he said Max does it if he doesn't like something. Great thanks Max!

Oh - is this your first daughter :)

I was shocked when the "girl attitude" reared it's ugly head so early too. I tell myself that it's a sign of an emerging very strong independant female!!! The whole sugar and spice thing - my DD is WAY more spice!

Yup-she's three. :) My son started saying.."mommy, you're stupid"...a few weeks ago and I was floored. It certainly seems to early, but when you consider that they have no clue what they are really implying and are just imitating something they hear, you can't blame them. Granted at that age they are certainly testing their boundries and baiting us too. When my son said it and ever since I tell him, "we don't say stupid in this family-it's not nice". After reiterating that enough and threatening to take away his favorite toy, or actually doing it-he gets it. Now he corrects me...I was convinced he heard it from another preschooler at school, but the other day we were in the car and I called another driver stupid, (didn't even realize), and up pipes a voice from the backseat..."mommy, we don't say stupid"...

:)

haha! no, 3 is not too young. I wouldn't give it much attention or else she'll learn it's something she can do to get a reaction. Some girls are nice & calm, and then there are others... It's just born in them to be little drama queens!

Oh my ... I remember this time. My daughter was pretty young, too. I think they learn it from others, or from tv. When my daughter started doing it, I just broke out laughing - it was too funny, I thought it was a teen thing and here is my little girl acting all "grown-up." At least, it broke us both out of the grumpiness.

Just wait till she gets the "sigh" down.... (You probably have a few years on that, but no guarantee.)

They learn quickly, don't they?!!!

I agree she probably saw it on TV. If it continues, you'd best put a stop to it because it's rude and also because she'll do it to others. Let her know that she won't have friends or playdates with others or privileges with you.

LOL. One parent on here said that her child was slamming and locking doors at 3 years old, so no that is not too young. They are doing everything at 3 years old. Kids are growing up too fast for me!

Ahahahaha! That's awesome. . . Sorry, I don't mean to laugh, I just didn't know that they could start doing that so young. I thought we had at least 10 years before that started happening. I'm seeing into my future right now. . . . Do boys start that just as young?

my reaction? "WOA - you can lose that attitude right now young lady. that is disrespectful and if i see it again you are going straight to time out." and next time it happens - straight to time out. they can feel however they want about something, get as mad as they want - but you don't be disrespectful. mine is four, and he has stomped his foot at me - same result. i've only seen him do it twice.
