Sounds like she is beginning to understand that she lost her daddy and maybe that means she could lose her mom too. Also there is always a bit of anxiety about getting left in day care no matter how nurturing and loving it may be.

It also sounds as though you care about this little daughter of yours, and maybe want to work out with her mother ways to be more involved in her life and assure her that you are not "lost" forever but will always be a part of her life because you are her father. Best of luck in working things out and helping your daughter to feel safe and confident!!

Blessings on you and your loved ones.

It is a completely normal developmental phase for a child this age to go through. She is still figuring out how the world works and is learning that the people she loves in her life still exist when they are not physically with her.

I wonder if anybody is saying to your daughter they don't want to lose HER? Like in a store where you might say "stay with me I don't want to lose you!" This could put the idea of losing someone in her head. If you say it enough it could stick.

I would say for you and the child's mom to just really work to reassure her that she will not lose anyone and that you are going to be there for her.

Is her mother nervous about losing her? Sometimes a parent voices her worries so much it spills over on their kid. A friend of mine always said things to her and around him to other people like she wouldn't know what to do without him or she would die if he died and so on..very sad and he started saying he didn't want to lose her he was afraid she would die. So maybe her mother is saying things without realizing it...

she is probably confused since she just found out you are her daddy. she is used to having mom in her life all of the time and now there is another parent mixed in the equation. It is hard for her to totally comprehend. she needs to be reassured by you and especially by her mom that she is not going any where. she will be alright.

M., as the mother of 5 and a foster mother as well as a grandmother of several I wanted to respond. Most children about the age of 3 go into a cling and don't leave me stage with any changes in thier lives. This is normal within a family and if the child is just now becoming aware of a change in attitudes and emotions then this will kick in big time. For us with one child she will not even go into the other room without calling for mommy for reasurrance that she is close by. Being a parent of little ones is much like being on a roller coaster ride a surprise around every turn. It sounds as if you and the mother are able to talk about the things that pertaine to your daughter and that is a secure thing for your little one. Just know that this is the little ones way of being secure about her little world.
