Has anyone heard or tried the Your Baby Can Read program?

I was wondering if it was worth the money? I have a 2 year old son who already knows all his colors, shapes, numbers and can count to 30 on his own. He knows his alphabet by recognition not just the song or order. So I figure this is the next step. I am looking for some flash cards with the words and the picture on them if anyone knows where to find them and really simple books with sentences like The dog ran. If you can help that would be great!

I bought "Your baby can read" for my baby. He has watched it since he was about 2 months old. At first I though he might not be interested but as he watched them more he recognized the songs and the kids on there. So now he is so excited when I turn it on! He is now 8 months old and still watches them 2 times a day. It also gives me a little break! I love it and it was so worth the money!!! I also got the flash cards with words (50 set) and I got the slide cards that have the word and then you slide it open and there is the picture of whatever the word was. He also loves those! I hope you get it and love it as much as we do! Good luck :)

If you look at books in the store there is a level # in the corner. Look for a 1. They are the easiest. Some of them are very simple with just a few words to a page. You can look through them and see how hard it is to read. Wal-mart has flash cards that have words and spelling on them and in different levels. They are in the stationary department with the learning books. Good luck

Greetings S.:

I agree with the other moms that suggest you find free or low cost resources before spending the $130. If you live in FW, the FW public library has a copy of the 5 DVDs that come with the set. I recently ordered them to be shipped to a library near my house and I will be able to pick them up in a few days. My son, 4, is very advanced for his age. My sister wants him in movies and if he learns to read like he memorizes stuff, then she can have it. He knows the basics, like your son and has known them for years, but I never challenged him to learn to read. I am encouraged just like you are to give my son every advantage. Seek the library first, it is the greatest resource our community has to offer. Love and blessings!

Before spending money I would use the free resources the internet has to offer. You mentioned your son already recognizes his letters; there is a website that begins at that point and teaches basic reading. It is free. The site is www. starfall.com. My children enjoy the site - it is fun and they are learning to read while enjoying their time on the computer. It may be worth looking at before spending extra money. Also, Teachers Tools in Hurst (near Lowes off of Pipeline) has great resources and you won't spend a fortune. Good luck.

There is a lot of books at Staples or Office Depot for children. I get them and work with my children. I also have a small sort of maybe 2ft by 2 ft chaulk board and this has been a blessing. I use the fat chaulk as it is easy for the children to use. This allows me to rewrite things over and over instead of having to buy tons of books. I do have the books too. But I am working with a 4 yr old now that for a long time I did not have him as much and harder to repeat things. I was so amazed that 2 yr olds can read and my nephew taught himself. He was reading the funny papers and the parents thought he was just looking at the pictures. He taught himself. At 18 mos I had a friend sit a child that we would go on walks. He sang songs and knew his colors and everything. It you can just take a word and repeat it over and over he will get it. I am so proud of you. Give him as much words as you can with anything you do. My son was delayed speach because of tubes in his ears. When mixing tell him what you are doing. When you solve problems say the steps outloud so he can hear that process. Happy smart child and a step up to education. I always thought I was dumb. Then over the years realized I am dylexic. They knew nothing about that when I was growing up. Over the years I learned to compensate for it and went to College and graduated three years ago. It is just realizing what you do and reverse it. Directions have always been backward to me. Keep going and giving him that one on one and he will be top of his class.
God Bless
