Yaz Birth Control - West Chicago,IL

Unfortunately, I had a horrible experience with YAZ. I took it for a few months and I ended up with a blood clot
in my lung (pulmanary embolism). I almost died from this and ended up on coumadin (blood thinner) for a year. I researched it more after this happened to me and several woman my age (30's) have had this happen. I am not a smoker and I am very active. I had no medical problems at the time and have taken other birth control successfully.

I was on it for over a year and didn't realize how much mood swings and cramping I had until a coworker of mine started talking about how she had to go off of it... Yes, my periods were light though ;-).

I went on Alesse that has a generic Aviane and had no problems after.

I was on Yaz for 6 months years ago. My body has never reacted very well w/ any change hormonally...but the dr thought w/ the lower doses of hormones in yaz they wouldn't affect me as much. No such luck! Turned me into such a moody and crazy person. I'm surprised anybody put up w/ me.
If your looking for something to help w/ your moods...think about taking St. John's Wort. It's an over the counter herbal remedy. You can find it in any grocery store or walmart with the herbal pills and vitamins. It's always seemed to help me and you don't have to take it forever and it's natural. Unless you want to be on the pill for birth control...I'd stay away from it.

Other than break through bleeding I didn't have any problems. I now take Mircette which so far so good, no nausea or anything. They all have side effects of some sort, you just have to try them out.

I took yaz for about 8months and it was horrible! Very bad mood swings, headaches, dizziness... You name it! I am now going for the Mirena IUD...

I was on it in November for 2 weeks, and had to quit taking it mid-cycle. I had horrible side effects from it; heart racing, severe headaches, dizzy spells. However, it did seem to improve my mood. Maybe if I would have given it more time, the side effects would have gone away, but from what I read on the internet, the side effects never go away or worsen. Some people claimed to have had blood clots, and embolisms after being on it for a short while. And yes, all b.c. pills carry that risk, but I was astonished at the number of people listing that as a side effect of this pill. Good luck!

I don't know how you feel about homeopathy or all- natural, but I was moved to completely stop taking birth control because of how damaging they can all be. They actually damage your hormone level. Birth control pills cause estrogen dominance and pump synthetic progesterone, which can actually reek havoc on your hormones and body- causing some of the things that you are trying to prevent by taking them, especially when you come off of them.

Most of these links are talking about a certain product to help with estrogen dominance, but they have some really good information that may help you make a decision. I hope this helps! If you are looking for something to balance moods...try an organic or all-natural store. Not sure where you live- Fruitful Yield...Whole Foods. It may take longer, but it won't cause other health issues.

Hi H., I'm glad you posted. My very good friend was on Yasmin and developed blood clots. She's young (32), healthy and doesn't smoke. She developed blood clots in her legs and lungs. Her lungs were actually damaged from the clots. She was hospitalized for several days and has actually had to return to the hospital several times since due to complications. She's also on medication and must adhere to a strict diet for several months to avoid further complications. I would avoid bc pills if you can, esp. Yasmin. I use the IUD and have had no issues. There's an IUD with hormones (Mirena) and one without (copper IUD). Good luck.

I didn't have a good experience with Yaz. Like you, part of the reason my doctor prescribed it for me was to help control my PMS, but my PMS symptoms actually got worse when I was on Yaz (in particular, depression, anxiety and irritability). I also stopped having my period (then again, I've had that happen with other types of birth control pills); I know many doctors say that's not bad for your health, but I don't think it's natural or healthy to not have a period (plus it's a reassuring way to ensure that you're not pregnant :). That's my experience - who knows, it might work well for you. Good luck!

My daughter has been on it to regulate her periods & for mood swings, its been 1.5 yrs now & seems to work for her. But on the other hand my sister tried using it 3 months ago & she had to stop within a week. She said she felt horrible on it. It affected her terribly. I just started taking Femcon Fe 4 months ago to help control pain & heavy bleeding. It has been good for my needs. I gave my sister a pack of the Femcon Fe (3 weeks now)& she has had a good experience with this one. Good luck

I just started it a couple of months ago. I'm starting into menopause way too early and am having heavy periods and awful nightsweats. With Yaz, my periods have been VERY short and light...literally a couple of days. Too early to tell about the night sweats. BP checked the other day was fine, doesn't seem to have affected my skin one way or the other. I have not checked the literature on Yaz so I don't know what negatives to look for---but I do know if it helps me from soaking the bed with sweat every night it will be good for me!

I was on Yaz for 2-3 months after I had my son. I got off of it b/c I thought I had huge mood swings and was very hormonal. I know it can be different for everyone though.

Just a few months ago I was on Yazmin (not exactly Yaz, I'm told) and after only 1 1/2 months asked to switch. I hated it because by boobs were so sore, I couldn't exercise. I was very sore for 2 weeks the first month, but gave it a second month to see if it would happen again. It did, and I called the doctor and said "get me off this stuff". I'd never had that symptom after 20 years of various pills.

I've been on Yaz for several years with no problems. I was on Yazmin, the generic version of Yaz and had a lot of break-through bleeding. I ended up switching because of that. I don't like having to take the pill, but it works and I basically don't get a period - maybe every 6 months or I'll have a really light one for a day.

I would be one of the women who did not like it. In terms of my period regularity, it was fine. However, I had MAJOR mood swings after starting it-always starting about 7 days after I opened my pack. Awful! I thought it was just related to having my second child. I went off of it last year, and withing two months, I felt awesome! I switched to the ring now (another low-dose). Good luck!

My Dr. put me on Yazz 8 months ago, for my moods before my period and for numerous other things, I just went back to my Dr. and said this is not working for me, I have given it plenty of time. In the end I had a DNC, found out I was anemic and had some polups in my uterus. I'm feeling much better and not nearly as moody and did not go back on Yazz. I guess my bottom line is it did not work for me and I know a few people the Yazz pill did not work for.

I asked my doctor to prescribe Yaz to me because I needed to regulate my moods, it did help my moods, but it also made my blood pressure go really high, so I had to stop using it and switch back to my last birth control pill. Everyone is different, but I did read that this could be a side effect. My blood pressure is now good being back on my old pills. Good Luck.

I have been on Yaz for about 2 years now to regulate my period and my sister-in-law is the one who suggested it to me since she has been on it for several years and I know neither of us have had any problems on it yet to date. I don't break out as much and I remember hearing that when it was advertised. But like I said neither of us had any issues so far with being on it. Good luck!

I have been on Yaz for 2 years now and I love it. I do not even get a period anymore, it is like they disapeared completely.
I have only one side effect; when I take the 'white' pills, I tend to get a headache for a few days until I start the regular ones again. But, I am prone to headaches and have a family history of them, so that may be a factor.
Otherwise, it has been a miracle for me as I had very bad premenstrual symptoms up to a week prior to my period.
Hope it works out for you too, if you decide to go that route.

My 19 year old stepdaughter was on this for about 8 months for her periods. I did not know she was on it and noticed that she had changed from being pretty nice to being pretty much a big grouch. My husband noticed it too. A few weeks ago she was at our house and saw a commercial for Yaz and mentioned how she had to switch off of it because it had made her so angry and cranky. Funny, because I had just mentioned last time she was here that she seemed back to her old self. We thought she was just having issues with going out on her own/school/trying to find work, but it was the Yaz. So for her, it caused really noticeable mood and behavior and personality changes. I guess it depends on each individual person how it will affect them.

My pms was worst and I developed a rash on my breast and torso the day I started on yaz. I couldn't handle it after 3 months and stopped taking it. The rash disappeared the next day after I stopped taking the pill. Good luck.
