Sort of a silly question, but I'm a little nervous. We are hosting a Christmas party, which will start at 6:30. If you were going to a party starting at that time would you eat dinner before going or assume you would eat at the party? We will have a ton of food, so I'm hoping people come hungry. I'm just getting worried about little things now! We've sent out a bunch of reminder things, so I didn't want to bother everyone again with a 'come hungry' reminder. Thought I would poll you guys and maybe rest easier. The party is on Saturday. Thanks ladies.
6:30 to me is within the range of dinner time. I would come hungry. That being said I have gone hungry to 6:30 parties where there was not a ton of food.
I think you should send out 'come hungry' reminders. As a guest I would rather know than assume incorrectly.

If I'm certain there will be food I attend hungry.
If I'm not certain, I eat a little something beforehand just in case (but not too much just in case there IS food).
If your original "invite" stated that food will be served, you should be okay.
If there's alcohol, generally people will drink for awhile and then nail the buffet when they start feeling the effects of the drinks.

I always eat a little something before I go unless I know specifically what is being served such as a gathering at my sister's or mom's...someone who has told me ahead of time just what they'll be having.
I have been to parties where the food was really great, but some others attending have behaved like it's a never ending all you can eat buffet at Sizzler and they don't think that other people might want some food too. They may not have eaten all day and are starving, I don't know, but my appetite goes out the window when people behave that way.
Even if people eat a little beforehand and your food is awesome, people will eat it. Don't worry.
I'm sure your party will be a success!

I have anxiety about this very thing, lol. You say you have sent out 'reminders'. DID those reminders say that there would be food? If not, I would eat before. Because if I showed up hungry and there wasn't food, McDonalds here I come.
It wouldn't hurt at all to send out a "Come Hungry" email or text.

I would definitely NOT eat before a dinner-time party.
As a matter of fact, this is one of the reasons why I chose not to attend my office Christmas party this year. The charge was $10/person to attend & then it was a cash bar with only snacks being served & the party was from 6:30-10:30. Ummm...that's dinner time, my friends! You better feed me!

I would eat something small in case there was not enough for a meal. If I was invited to a party that started at 6:30 I would assume it's just appetizers and not a full meal.

I woudl assume heavy appetizers and drinks, but not dinner. Don't worry about, if you have the food, you will just have leftovers, the guests won't care. However, next time, put a note on the invite "join us for dinner" or "light refreshments" etc.

I think that you should relax and let people do what they're gonna do. The timing is perfect for them to expect food, depending on what kind of party it is. (I always serve food, but not always "dinner".) If you have told them that you will be serving dinner, then they already know.
I usually eat before because I have dietary restrictions and because I don't eat just anyone's cooking. To avoid the discomfort of "What's in that?" I make sure not to arrive hungry.

I have to be honest, I would wonder if there would be dinner or lots of snacks, being that the time COULD be dinner, but maybe not??? I'm sure most will come hungry and ready to eat, though, since that's just what you do at parties!!!! LOL! Sounds fun!!!

Unless you said you were serving dinner I would assume there was no dinner, however, I believe most people expect lots of treats and food to munch on. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Enjoy!

Well, we eat early, and I would assume this is an "after dinner party". On my invites I always put something like, "Food will be ready at 6:00pm, but please come earlier to socialize, party starts at 5pm." Good luck.

I would definitely assume food of some sort. Perhaps put something in your invitation like 'snacks or appetizers provided'. Or change the time to 7+.

I would eat a little bit before, because I'm used to eating around 5:30. But I would definitely save room for munchies at the party, no doubt! Especially if you are going to be serving alcohol.

A party at 6:30 would make think that food, of some sort, would be available. So I thought I would not come starving, I would expect to have something to eat while I was there.
My friend is having her annual Christmas afternoon bash next weekend and we always go hungry to her house. LOL She makes amazing party food.
Relax, you will throw a great party!!!

I would come expecting to eat if not graze. My kids are picky tho, so if they were coming also, I would probably have them eat something light before hand.

For a party at 6:30, I would assume there would be food, but not necessarily dinner so I would probably eat a little something before going, but still come ready to nibble. As for kids, I know that once mine get started playing it is hard to get them to stop to eat so I would probably have them eat a little something also. Mine are famous for not eating at the party because they're playing and as soon as we leave start in with "I"m hungry."
