I had no idea there were so many products for cleaning windows until I read the responses. I have to agree with the cheapest solution - vinegar and water. I took an old Windex bottle and filled it with 1 part water and 1 part white vinegar. Oh, I put in a little blue food coloring so I remember it is window cleaner. I don't bother with newspaper, but do agree with the cheap paper towels. When cleaning the bathroom, it is my five-year-old's special job to spray the mirrors.

I LOVE the Clear Power by Melaleuca. It never leaves streaks and cleans even the toughest outside windows. I also use and swear by their furniture polish to clean and dust. I was amazed the first time I used these products!

Best combination that I've used:

In a spray bottle, combine:
About 2-3 cups cold water
Splash of ammonia (fragrance free is best, if you can find it)
Single drop of Ivory dishwashing liquid (literally, a single drop)

Mix this together just by shaking the bottle.

Use lint free cloths which can be purchased at Target by the pack. I use two cloths for everything I clean. One to wash the surface and the other to dry it. I clean each surface area twice and can't believe how well this works.

Oh, I was thinking along the lines of vinegar and water, applied with newspaper. Or are you looking for a human :) ????

" Add 1/4 (one-quarter) cup white vinegar to a quart of very warm water to make a good window cleaner. Wipe with crumpled newspaper and your windows will sparkle."
This tip comes from Mary Hunt on her website: www.debtproofliving.com. (I did a search for window cleaner and found this) She has lots of other tips for better cleaning products and saving money on her site. The best I have found is Windex in the spray can. It foams up, grabs the dirt and wipes away clean...if you want a cheaper alternative, any window cleaner add a 1/4 of vinegar to it and presto you have a wonderful cleaner...Don't add vinegar to the window cleaners that advertise vinegar in it. Not safe

The other day my 2yr-old son got Budreaux's Butt Paste (greasy zinc oxide based diaper cream) all over our windows. I just grabbed the 409 and a paper towel and it cut through all of the grease and got it right off!

And you're worried about your windows???
Dirty windows, floors, doors and sometimes walls are threatening your future! Those precious little fingers will be everywhere in very short order.
I don't have a recommendation, but just had to write to tell you that I am turning 61 next month and have been raising my 5 year old granddaughter since birth. These gals wrote the other day about forming an "older" mom group of mamas in their forties. HA! Maybe you and I could start a group of pre-retirement moms! I know that I can feel out of the loop quite a bit and I really have to work to catch up with today's chld raising. Feel free to write me anytime.

Gleme! It is a foam spray and does not leave streaks. I told my neighbor about Gleme, she tried it and went and bought a whole case of it. I buy it at a "cleaning supply" store. Here is a link to a place that has good pricing. I think I pay around $3 a can.

http://www.dudco.com/Chemicals/Aerosols/Gleme.html

Another tip is to buy the cheapest paper towels possible because they are lint free. Newspaper is way too messy to handle. If my windows are really dirty, I clan them with a wet rag, dry them and then use my Gleme.

vinegar or ammonia in water and a squeegie work great. You will need newspaper (or rag or paper towel) to wipe the squeegie and the window edge where the squeegie did not get.

I am a grandmother watching a 1 year old granddaughter too. So much fun, but keeps one hopping!

I use a non-toxic window cleaner, it's called Clear Power! It's from this company who has been manufacturing non-toxic products for over 23 yrs. If you are interested in seeing more about these products, please contact me at www.livetotalwellness.com and I can help you. Also, there are over 400 products as well! It's amazing!! All of them are also environmentally safe.

All of my household and personal products I buy from them! I will use nothing else!! I'd rather pay a little more to get non-toxic cleaners than to go the cheaper way. JMO

Thanks I look forward to hearing from you.

Yes, it is easy and inexpensive! I use 1/2 cup of Amonia
(like Mr Clean or generic brand) in a pail of hot water. The Amonia takes care of dirt and grease and due to the heat the whole thing evaporates quickly. I have found newspaper (black & white print)to be better than papertowels because they have no lint.
If you are looking for a service I have had luck asking shop owners who contract their cleaning out to a service. Good Luck, C.
