Hello friends, just a little history, healthy 28 yrs old, 4 daughters, had tubal 16 months ago, apendix removed aug 2008, been having sharp pains on right side since tubal, linked it to "pulling" from tubal. I only have emergency health coverage so last friday i headed to the ER because of sharp pains on my lower right side, similar to what ive been feeling since my tubal, but this time it wasn't going away. I told the doc i suspected an ovaryan cyst, he agreed, but then blood showed in my urine and he now suspected a kidney stone, Cat scan ruled it out so then i had an ultrasound to check my ovary which showed "signs of torsion" doc suspects that it may have twisted and then untwisted, but he could not explain why my right ovary is larger than usual because there was no cyst, he says i need to see an OB for this as for the blood in urine, again I dont have medical coverage so i would have to pay cash for any consults and tests/studies and I can't afford it right now. The pain magically disappeared on Saturday, but im still concerned as to what all of this may mean. Has anyone ever been told they had a large ovary, and what did you find out? Thank you in advanced!!

What can I do next?

Yeah, not to scare you but you should not take this lightly. It can be anything from irritation/inflamation due to torsion/adhesions from surgery to cancer.

I had symptoms like you described after an appendectomy at age 14. I needed an exploratory laparoscopy and it turned out that I had a chronic inflammation of the ovaries and uterus due to the adhesions from the earlier surgery. Once they clipped the scar tissue I was fine and they did not come back.
Good luck!

This is not an answer by any stretch...just a me too. I have on enlarged ovary, my right, and it gives me the sharpest pains when I ovulate. I could see going to the ER over that pain. But I take Motrin or Alleve and wait it out. Even with those pain relievers, I can still feel it being angry and swollen. The other ovary has a cyst, has always had a cyst, and no OB has ever been too worried about as it stays between the size of a pea and almond. So, question, do you have this pain monthly with ovulation? Or is it new and shocking?

I have had blood in my urine due to a kidney infection. Blood in urine is nothing to fool with.

But each problem above seems unrelated.

Leila, please look into some type of medical coverage. State coverage? Medical? Medicare? Take a PT job that offers benefits? Shop around on line? There has got to be some type of medical assistance somewhere.

GL! Keep us posted. I hope your ovary is normal.

Because it was VERY, VERY ANGRY!

Oh wait...that's an ENGRAGED ovary. LOL!

Just kidding. Hope that lightens the mood a bit.

Seriously though, maybe this will help: http://health.bettermedicine.com/article/enlarged-ovary

My SIL had a colonocopy. Then, following that procedure had severe pain in her side. The pain came and went. She went for months with a ton of tests, MRI's, ultrasounds, OB consults... only to finally figure out she had endometriosis.

They found it during exploratory surgery that her doc finally scheduled to try to figure out the problems. She was missing work (she runs an in-home daycare) and was so tired of the pain and worried about ruining her business by missing days, that she pretty much demanded they figure out what the heck was wrong with her! Every doc she saw figured it was related to her colonoscopy, but it was totally unrelated.

She had to have an ovary and tube removed, and part of her uterus.

I'd say, please take care of yourself. Go in to your doctor. Severe pain is never normal. Don't rule out endometriosis as it is apparently sometimes very hard to diagnosis.

I suggest that blood in the urine is serious and urge you to follow up with your doctor.

Here is a web site that talks about enlarged ovary. That, too, can be very serious.

I agree with everybody who says you should get it checked it. While I know it will cost you out of pocket, your health is way more important than money.

I myself had a chronic side pain that I thought was an ovarian cyst. I had all sorts of tests done, including a colonoscopy, and they could find nothing wrong. The pains eventually subsided and went away. The doctors said it was probably adhesions. During that process though they did find that one of my ovaries is larger than the other. There was no sign of a cyst, and after all the other tests I went through (including endometrial biopsy for cancer), they said it may just be that one ovary had always been larger.

Still get it checked out, but thought you'd appreciate a story that turned out to be nothing!
