Hi Moms! We are in the market for new carpet in a few of our rooms and are looking for brand name suggestions and store recommendations. Are companies that come to you like Empire any good? What stores should we try? I live in Plainfield so anywhere in a 30 minute radius is fine. We need installation, removal of old carpet, as well as a good stain blocker and decent padding. Is anyone thrilled over their carpet? Thanks for any advice! I have never bought carpet before and really don't have a clue what I should be looking for at a store.

What can I do next?

Last year we remodeled our basement and carpeted it. We bought carpet from M & M Carpet, in New Lenox. These people were fantastic! I brought books home and their prices were very competitive. I started pricing carpet at some of the larger places and their prices were better (and not as confusing!!!!! Bigger places offer you soooo many choices of padding. Why?)

Michelle is the owner. Very helpful. Can't think of the name of the well-known carpet brand that I picked, but if you want to know, I will find it for you. They suggested going with a frieze which I was against (I still have the 1970's shag-stigma). I went with it and love it! I want it for the rest of my house.

Good luck.

I got new carpet 2 years ago and I love it! Like you, I have never bought new carpet before, as we have hardwood in the rest of the house. We got our basement finished and had new carpet installed. We got our carpet at Home Depot. They were having a special of $99 installation for all carpet, no matter how many rooms you had. We carpeted our giant family room and 2 bedrooms with closets. They also upgraded our padding to the best available for free (I don't remember why, maybe because of the amount we were spending). They got it all done in about 6 hours and did a perfect job. We spent about $1,800, which was cheaper than the estimate they gave us. The carpet was great quality and everyone that comes to our house is impressed with it and the fact we got it from Home Depot. I would highly recommend them. I don't remember the actual brand of carpet, though. Good luck!

We had our carpets put in by Georgia Carpet in Westmont(on Ogden Ave). Their prices ere competetive, they came out quickly to give us a quote and for installation. They've been around since the 70's and were recommended to us by several people including a contractor.
