Where Could I Teach Art Classes?

I was wondering if anyone knew of a place or two that I could check out to teach kids and adult art classes? I was a junior high art teacher for 9 years until I decided to stay home with my 2 little ones. We are moving to Lewisville on Aug. 17th. For the last few years I have taught art classes after school and in the evenings at a local recreation center. I really just need a room with a sink somewhere because I have my kiln and art supplies at home. I will probobly start with kids classes and add adult classes later. Our house is in Lewisville off of 407 on the west side of 35. Does anyone know a place that might let me teach art classes? Thanks! (Any other advice, info, and words of wisdom about the area would be great too! :) )

What can I do next?

K.,
You might also try Abrakadoodle. They had an instructor come over to our place of business for our homeschool art class. Homeschool groups are a great resource because they tend to take classes during off peak hours. Try looking for homeschool support groups on the internet, for example, Metro Homeschool support group, Richardson homeschool support group, and finding out who to contact to offer your services to. Good Luck!

Are you interested in teaching at a school. If so, look at Smart Start in Coppell. They are looking for an art teacher to teach the preschoolers. Talk to Mary Severs at

Good Luck

Maybe you can check out the Lewisville Rec Center. You can google "city of Lewisville wow guide" to get an idea of the things they offer. Also, there is an art program called Young Rembrants (www.youngrembrandts.com) that may be of some interest as well. Good luck!

HI,
I was a teacher before staying home with my kids too. The city of Corinth has rec classes available to teach. You can fill out an application for the type of class, ages, etc. that you wish to teach. My daughter took a music class and a ballet class through this program and loved it. The application is on the city website. Let me know if you do and we just might sign up :)
Good luck,

I know that parks and recreation departments are always looking for new teachers to add classes. Maybe check out Lewisville Parks and Rec Dept? or another near by town.

I don't know if this place would have what you're looking for (sink, etc.), but you could try Home Educators Resource located off Main in Lewisville. They provide a lot of different classes for homeschoolers. From what I understand, you set your rate and pay the store a percentage (I could be wrong so don't quote me on that).

I also had a friend that used to teach art at Art-O-Rama (I think that's how it is spelled). I don't know where their location(s) are or if there is one near you.
