I too would love to know where they are... If you get any responses would you mind forwarding them to me at ____@____.com, I know in ellis they have some sort of blue bonnet festival but I have never been.
Thanks,
W.
Since moving to TX in '98 I have yet to see an open field of blue bonnets. I've seen them on the side of the road or highways but never a field.
This year I want to take a photo of my sons in a field of blue bonnets but have no idea where to do this.
Can you help me find a field of blue bonnets?

go to legacy and the tollway. when you exit legacy, go west. keep going and you will eventually see a huge field of bluebonnets on the Frito Lay propery (I think it's Frito Lay). There is a trail and several side streets to park on.
You need to visit Ennis, Texas -- the bluebonnet city of Texas. They even have an annual bluebonnet festival A. 21-23

There is also a hotline you can call for the up to date status on the blooms: Bloomin' Updates Call the Texas Department of Transportation Hotline (March-May) at 800-452-9292 for information on where the best bluebonnet trails are blooming.
And lastly, here is a list from about.com for other places/numbers/links to get bluebonnet re ports

hi
in my personal opnion Ennis has the best, but they are the bluebonnet capitol.
on Head Quarters next to Frito lay in Plano there are fills of blue bonnets, too.
I am going to take blue bonnet pictures this year. You can check out my website at www.justoneyear.com
Since the bluebonnets are getting a late start this year I am planning them for the second and third weeks in april. If you email me, I can keep you posted if they bloom any earlier.
thanks so much, D.
I have seen mothers on the side of the North entrance of the airport taking pictures in the past. I found this on the internet for you: http://austin.about.com/cs/outdoorattractions/a/bluebonne...
This page lists several places bluebonnets can be found.
Honestly, I've lived here most of my life and have never seen an open field of them. If I remember correctly, it was Lady Bird Johnson's idea to have the roadways sprinkled with wildflower seeds. Thus, every year, mothers and children make pilgrimages down I-35 with their cameras and a picnic blanket....
You should be able to see plenty before you get to Waco :-)
The blue bonnets are amazing at the Frito Lay Headquarters. Its Huge and the entry way is very large. Anyone can go there. Its on Legacy in between Preston and the Tollway.
Hello A.L.
Go to Ennis, TX. I went there a couple of years ago. They have fields full of bluebonnets. We took pictures there along with a lot of other people. It was beautiful. Hope this helps! L.
I just want to add a bit of a caution here. We went to Ennis last year during bluebonnet festival weekend. We expected to see fields of blue along the highway. No such luck. Bluebonnet Trail in Ennis is largely made up of a small dirt road. There are a few bluebonnets growing along the road, but there really aren't the enormous fields you expect to see. We finally happened upon one beautiful patch of them after an hour and a half of searching, got some great pictures and left. But all in all, we were disappointed, because there just weren't the large fields of blue we hoped to see. This year, we may try Frito Lay, because it's at least closer!
The town of Ennis is a great place to see lots of bluebonnets. It is the Yexas "official" bluebonnets trails.
We go every year to take pics for the last 2 years.
Should be good since we had a dry Fall
Every year around this time there is a HUGE field for blue bonnets off of HWY 423 in Little Elm. If you're going toward 380 on Hwy 423 the field is on your right. There are always tons of people there doing the exact thing you're looking to do, so it will be hard to miss..
Hope this helps..
I live in Irving too and have found that a safe place to take pictures in the bluebonnets is by driving the road that goes past the Albertsons Store on MacArthur. Drive as if you are going towards the hotel that is behind that store. You will come to a light and just keep on going and you will see the fields back there in that area and they are full of blue bonnets.
Have not driven past there yet to see if they are in bloom but will do so this weekend and let you know.
You can call me if you want at ###-###-####.
I take pictures with my grandaughters each year...it has become a tradition for us. They live in San Antonio and I live in Dallas.
Last year Victoria became ill and I for one reason or another could not make it down there so I took some from Dallas in a pot and we took pictures in front of that pot of blue bonnets. Then I took on down further south and took one with Mia.. the other grandaughter.
Blessings to all.

I believe there is a very pretty and pretty large blue bonnet field in Fort Worth. I'm sorry I don't know exactly where it is, but that may help you narrow your search a little.
Hi! If you're willing to drive to Plano, there's a Bluebonnet Trail (hike/bike trail) that has many bluebonnets in the spring. I don't think they're blooming now, but they usually have many beautiful bluebonnets -- and any given Sat. or Sun during the bloom you'll find lots of parents out there taking photos with their kiddos. Where I go/park: At the northeast corner of Spring Creek and Custer -- go north on Custer, pass Spring Creek and make the first right into the Wonder Bread Bakery parking lot...park there and walk over to the trail, just north of the Wonder Bread store.
Here's a map from the Plano Parks Dept.

Good luck!
Hello A.L. Well, I don't think you're going to have any luck this year. I've heard that due to the drought conditions the blue bonnets are not blooming. Maybe there will be scattered fields, but certainly not like normal. I've only found blooming fields along the roadside as well. This is because it's TexDot that scatters the seeds along the roads to enhance the view! Perhaps someone else has a better answer!

I found myself wondering that same question a few years back and went on a search for them. I found the best, most beautiful and bountiful fields down around Fredrickburg - which is just north of San Antonio.
