Sorry if this is a repeat. I didn't get a chance to look over the responses. Post them on www.craigslist.com in the free area for people to come get for their garage sales.
Now that it's spring, I decided to clean my closets and cannot believe how many hangers I have (mostly wire). I have no use for these, and am wondering if I can just add them to my recycle box or if there is anything I can do with them aside from throwing them out in the garbage to add to the unnecessary waste. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
OK, It looks like I'll be taking them back to the dry cleaners. I didn't know if they would want them back but according to you guys this is a no brainer. Thanks Ladies!

Time to get crafty. I remember years ago we either wrapped or crotched yarn around them to make wider and softer hangers for more delicate items. Then when my little ones were born I wrapped them in bright colors and hung rattles from the hangers at different lengths, in front my kids they loved looking at them and batting them around.
My drycleaner willing takes them back to reuse them. Even better than putting in the recycling garbage because they are not "re-created"
Just a thought.
Bring them back to a dry cleaner. They'll really appreciate it. You could recycle it too.
Most dry cleaners will recycle wire hangers.
Maybe some of your local churches could use them for their rummage sales.
Or resale shops.
Or dry cleaners.
I have a mess of them too, just from the dry cleaners
Dear J. H.,
In Holland, MI we have a Community Action House that donates free clothing to people in the area and I would think that where you live would have something similar that would accept free hangers. I would think a place like that could really use hangers to hang up what they receive to give out until they are given away. I know I could always use more hangers myself.
Hope you can find a place to donate them. It would be a shame for them to go to a landfill if you can't find a better place for them. Our family recycles because it already costs so much for our garbage and we think of the future costs for our granddaughters.

You could give them to the dry cleaner. I worked at one in high school and they always liked to get them back to reuse.
you could see if salvation army could use themor someone having a garage sale.
will goodwill (or another thrift store) take them?
Hey J. ~
If you know any school teachers, art instructors, or Sunday School volunteers, they might take hangers off your hands. There are darling mobile crafts that can be made with wire hangers!
Hi J.,
There is a website called Freecycle, and they have groups according to the area you live in. You post something old, broken, or unwanted with the purpose of keeping it out of the landfills, and there's always someone who'll take your free stuff! I am sure someone would happily take your wire hangers, and you might find something good on there that you want, too!
A.
My husband takes ours back to the dry cleaner's! They re-use them.
Dry cleaners will gladly take them back and re-use them.
Hi J., drop them off at local Dry Cleaners. When I swiched to plastic one's that's what we did.
My intial thoughts have been mentioned but wire hangers also make good support bases for stepping stones. Your daughter would probably love making these! Take a box (pizza box, gift box, whatever), put a couple of wire hangers in the bottom, fill with quick set cement and decorate with tile pieces (craft store), stones, trinkets from around the house, etc.
Salvation Army type stores would love to have them!
J., I always take mine to my dry cleaners. that's all they use, and they seem to appreciate it. I can't bear to throw them away either! good luck!
I know that Martinizing Cleaners takes the wire hangers. You just drop them in a box at one of there locations.
J.,
They are welcome in your recycling bin if they are free of paper and those little cardboard rods. I had my kids strip ours down, then we recycled the paper and cardboard separately. It's probably easier to drop them off at a dry cleaners, but I don't dry clean regularly and didn't want to make a special trip, so I just loaded them into the bin and they disappeared with the rest of the recycling. It felt great to get rid of them. We had hundreds!
Regards, L.
give them to a DRY CLEANERS in your area - they'll love it!
I put an offer for them on www.freecycle.org We get tons of them because my husbands uniform company won't take them back.
Hi J.,
You can recycle your hangers at the dry cleaners. Most dry cleaners will take the wire hangers & the paper wrap that is sometimes over them and also the plastic bags that go over the clean clothes. We do this and don't have any problem with them taking it back.
Sincerely,
J.
Any dry cleaners would take them.
Hello J., I'm glad to hear that you want to dispose of these the correct way. You can donate them to a homeless shelter, domestic violence shelter, good will, salvation army, ect.. Call around to see who in the area needs them. Good luck.
We use only wire hangers at our consignment sale. Perhaps you can drop them off at the church, Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Jenison.
Check with salvation army they may want them!
There is a great website that I use for recycling everyday items. You could offer your hangers and I'm positive they would find a new home :) Everything is free to offer and free to pick up -- you just need to be willing to drive to where the item is if you are picking something up. They operate all over the United States in multiple cities in each state...
The website is
www.freecycle.org
I hope this helps. Please contact me if theres any questions
I know they accept them at the Soccra recycling place in Troy
you could list them on craigslist or freecycle
