My daughter is asking for deodorant. She says her underarms are stinky. I haven't noticed but I want her to feel confident. What is a good one to start with?

What can I do next?

We use baking powder and coconut oil in my house. Sometimes if I am really sweaty and hormonal, I will wipe with a washcloth dampened with peroxide first. The baking powder is the best deodorant I have ever used, and the coconut oil helps it stick, but doesn't leave a stain on your clothing. I love that there is nothing chemical going into our bodies. My next choice is a Crystal roll-on (If you cant' find it in stores, drugstore.com has it.)

I took my daughter and she picked out about 3 kinds and then finally figured out her favorite.

She likes Dove Clinical because she thinks she sweats too much. Gees, she is 16, cheerleader and you know how things get to them. I just try to get whatever she thinks is working for her so she has one less worry in her teen drama.

We like Tom's of Maine, apricot scent. Regardless of what you pick, stay away from anything labeled "anti-persperant." Just go for the deodorant.

My daughter, who is 8... uses Arm & Hammer "Essentials" all natural deodorant. It has no aluminum in it and no parabens.

There's a great company called Lush that has wonderful products. They're not your typical deodorants in a plastic holder, it's like a fresh soap cut off in chunks. She may get self-conscious about that aspect but they are actually a "boutique-y", higher end store which might make up for it. You can buy a reasonable size portion for 5 or 6 bucks and it will last, with normal use, for almost a year so it's great investment for you too. I love all their products, but especially the deodorants. Check them out at lush.com.
