ok my son who is 2 likes to throw things up in the air or across the room, this is very fun to him, but not to me, and today he tossed a go size truck up in the air and it hit him in the back of his head, and yes it hurt but only for like 2 minutes than it was off to do something else, and later he did it again but not with the same toy, i try to tell him that he can't throw things in the house and that it will hurt if it hits someone, but nothing is working, help please.

What can I do next?

I don't know if this will work with your son, becasue I don't know what punishments you use with him at 2, but what I did with my kids was - if they threw a toy (for example) after they had been told not to, I would just walk of=ver to the toy, and take it away. Put it in a laundry basket or something in the closet, and leave it there.

It may take a wahile, but eventually he may run out of toys, and realize, oops!

My child behaves like this when he is bored, angry, scared, frustrated, ect...
When we visit family out of town he refuses to say goodbye. Maybe he wants your undivided attention or he is just trying to cope. At his age he hasn't learned good coping skills yet.

I would try time outs, or just taking away the toy he throws. I'm sure it will pass, hopefully before he hurts himself again... good luck

I feel your pain except i'm 24 and my son is 3...its very hard acting as both parents in just a few ours each day...but just remember that if momma don't do it then no one else will...and consistancy is the key

Hi L.- It is so hard for me to tell you what will work for you child because every child is different! for my 21 month old son we did the 3 strikes and then time out... so we would fuss him 3 times and then on the forth time we put him in time out and explained to him why he was there and what it was he did was wrong..or as he would say it "not nice"...ofter a week or 2 he got the hand of it and was tired of being in time out so he stoped throwing stuff! but hey its just an idea! good luck!

Hi L.,

My son used to do the same thing sometimes. He is now 3 yrs. 3 mos. My mom always said that if you don't like how they are behaving either divert their attention or replace that toy with another one.

For ex.: If my son was throwing a big metal vehicle up in the air and it hit him, then I would say "If you need to throw things in the air then at least use something lighter( like a nerf ball, sock, stuffed animal,etc.). Then I would show him with whatever light toy I could find. Then tell him " That way if this falls on yours or anybody else's head then nobody gets hurt!!!"
