What do you think of parents who smoke? I was just curious how other mothers felt about this issue? Would you be freinds with a mother who smoked? Would you let your child stay at that persons house? How many mothers out there smoke?

What can I do next?

For me it would depend on how much they smoked and where they did it. I smoke just 1 cigarette a day (I know, it's a weird addiction to just have that 1....) - it's always at night and it's always outside on our porch.

I probably wouldn't judge any other parents who were real smokers as long as they didn't smoke in their house nor in the car (when any kids were inside of it).

I have a feeling that a lot of parents would have a problem w/ it though....but probably would be fine if it was happening no where near their kids.

interesting question; i hate to pass excessive jugement but there's just more and more evidence that smoking is really significantly dangerous for everyone who comes in contact w it; and to me, smoking really suggests a lack of concern for other safety and developmental issues; so i would say no, i wouldn't be close friends w a smoking mom and i probably wouldn't let my child play at thier home, though i would welcome them into my home for casual playdates, where it's really clear that we're a no smoking household. my best friend is a smoker and she knows not to even try it anywhere near the kids or even in my car. i only feel i can be this adamant because i did smoke for 17 years before i had my kids and i would even admit that i miss it once in a while! oh well, small price to pay for my beautiful babies!

Well my mother-in-law smokes and my son barely goes there, it is too dangerous for his health. So no, I would not let my child stay there. I know it may be hard to quit smoking but knowing the fact that this would be harmful to my child I would make a great effort to quit.

I have a sister that is a heavy smoker and she lives right next door to me so it is hard for me to keep my daughter away from her house. I told my sister that my daughter may have asmah because her father had childhood asmah and she agreed to not smoke if she is over.
I held her to her promise(even popped over to her house a few times to make sure that she was keeping her promise lol)and everthing has been good.
So how do I feel about mothers that smoke...as long as you don't smoke around the kids go on.

LOL, as a reformed smoker...(2 years clean!!) I have to say that I would not be comfortable letting my daughter stay at someones house, if they are smoking in the house.

Yes I would be friends with another mom if she smoked, as long as she doesn't do it within close vicinity of my daughter. One of my best friends is a smoker, but she knows that out of respect and good judgement not to do it around any children. What I can't stand is to see pregnant ladies smoking or people smoking in the car with children, or even peopel smoking in a house with children. (If you can't quit for you child's sake then at the least go outside.....)

It's a touchy subject with alot of people, but the bottom line is SMOKING IS BAD, no matter what way anyone tries to justify it.

This question reminds me of a little girl I was teaching to swim. She came with her school as a gym activity and while I was putting on her bathing cap I could smell smoke. This little girl was 8-yrs-old and I asked her if someone in her home smoked and she said, yes, her mom. I could only imagine what her home and the air she breathes while sleeping smells like if she is coming to school smelling like that.

My husband smokes but only outside. My best friend also smokes but again only outside. I thought that was pretty common practice but I guess I was wrong.

It also annoys me when I see pregnant people smoking. At least give your child some chance of not having respiratory problems. It's such a shame.

Hi C.,
I cant stand people who smoke. My sister is a hugh smoker and I dont allow my son to spend time at her house. I have no friends that smoke and when family members come here that smoke they MUST smoke out side
