What Do I Do with These Chairs?

A family member gave us a kitchen table and chairs. The chair have castors (big wheels) on the bottom. We have small kids and wood floors, so we thought we'd just take them off. But then the chairs are too short. We want to try to use this and keep it in the family - it's very nice except for these wheels that don't work for us. What can we do so we can use the chairs? Is there anything we can add to the bottoms of the chair legs to boost them up, that looks nice?

What can I do next?

Mama:

Good morning!! I am wondering if the furniture pads or stops that go under beds would work for you?

I know this isn't exact...but you get what I'm saying, right? Put these over the wheels - still have the height and not the problem?

Take one of the chairs to a hardware store and ask for suggestions.

I think there are plastic chair covers that make it so they don't move. Maybe go to Lowes or Home Depot and see if they have them?

The locking covers for the wheels or new locking wheels would be easiest but if you know someone who is handy they could make some wood blocks (or whatever shape the chair legs are - round, etc.) and attach them to the bottom of the chairs. I imagine they could put a hole in the top of the block and fit in a dowel rod that could then go in the hole left by the casters. Glue both ends with wood glue, stain to match and put felt on the bottom to protect the floors.
