Honestly, besides my kids, my hubby and my family, I get the most satisfaction by being OK financially. We try really hard to budget our money and pay all our bills on time, we have done an excellent job of not incurring ANY CC debt, we pay cash for everything and believe me when you own your own home isn't it amazing how often something breaks? My kids, hubby and myself do not want for anything and we do have a plenty of toys, computers, game systems, etc. We have saved up enough $ finally that we will be paying off the remaining balance of our 2005 Chevy Suburban...this may not seem like a big deal to some but to me and my hubby it is a huge accomplishment! We had to save for along time to put down a whole grip of cash to buy it in the first place and we had to spread it out over 6 years so the payments would be within the range we had budgeted. We have 5, sometimes 7 kids (including nephews who practically live with us) so when it came time to get our new car we had to do our research, it had to fit all of us, be within our budget and be reliable for years to come... it was our very first BRAND NEW car...and to be able to pay it off early makes us feel good.
We may not have the latest and greatest of everything but what we do have we worked hard for and are very thankful for! We often tell ourselves how lucky we are to have all our "stuff" and that the kids are all healthy and we are giving them a safe, stable life with plenty of fun toys and what-nots, when we wish we had the $ to spend on a night out and it makes us feel better :)
I grew up without any $ and our electricity and water was always getting turned off...we even lived in our car for awhile...so being able to successfully manage our money brings me a great deal of satisfaction!
~I hope this doesn't make me sound materialistic or shallow...I am sure others will have more meaningful responses to your question...but this is mine!
