Ok I've been under some stress for the past two months. We are in the process of selling our house and trying to buy a new one. Doesn't sound too bad but I really stink with any change "(
Also I'm 46 and realized that this could be perimenopause symptoms.
Anyway my period came 4 days late, My nipples were killing me ( I can have some breast soreness but never my nipples), my period is much lighter than normal but more than just spotting, Also I use a menstrual cup to catch my flow and noticed that the blood is much thicker than normal. Also my bleeding has lasted a few days longer than normal. Another really weird thing is that I'm not at all moody or irritated like I usually am during all of this ") Wasn't that nice? Usually my breast stop hurting as soon as my period starts, not this time. Now my breast are sore and my nipples are not that bad and I've almost stopped bleeding. I feel like I'm losing my mind. You know everything runs like clock work for YEARS and then this happens. Oh and I did run a few pregnancy tests last week and they were all negative.
Has this sort of thing ever happened to you?
Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I did call my doctor before posting this and she said that if I don't have a period for two months that I should come in for bloodwork. (?)
I was not sure if the symptoms were caused by stress or perimenopause.
I ended up trying some natural progesterone cream and it's helped me so far. I've decided to treat it as perimenopause.
Thank you for all of your responses.

Sounds like the beginning of Menopause to me.....and it's a rough ride.........I had a period for over a month and a half.........they finally had to give me something to stop it.........it was awful............

I would suggest a trip to your Dr. and make sure nothing else is going on.....just to be safe, and even if there isn't, she might be able to help you figure out something to make things better.

Good Luck and hang in there.

Having a hot flash at least let me know it was perimenopause. Initially my period was normal most for the year. Maybe only once or twice it was off (this was when I was 42). Now I'm 48, and my period is normal about half the time. It can be normal, normal, 2 weeks, normal, 42 days, 42 days, normal normal, 2 weeks, etc. Some months the bleeding is fairly light, but most the time when it comes it's the same as it's always been. Generally I can tell it's coming when my face gets more oily and I have a salt craving. Eventually it will all wind down and come to a stop.

Sounds like perimenopause to me. At about 46 my cycle started becoming irregular (you could have set the clock by it up until then), would go from very light to very heavy, suddenly starting having PMS for the first time ever, along with cramping and sore breasts. Two years later, I'm now having hot flashes and haven't had a period in 3 months.

I agree that trip to the doctor might be in order. A simple blood test can check your hormone levels.
