Menopause Question, Warning, TMI

OK, I am 46 years old, I only have one ovary due to a surgery about 17 years ago. Before my latest period started it was a month late (this is the 1st time I've been late, I just figured it was "my time" coming). It started VERY lightly and has now gone on for 3 weeks that way, today I start with what seems like an actual period. OK, what the heck, is this going to stop any time soon? Do I need to visit my doctor? I don't want to rush in for no reason, but this seems crazy.

Thoughts??

Thanks,

M.

Could you be pregnant? I only ask because I had my dd when I was almost 45 and got pregnant again after that (miscarried the second one). It happens.

Hi M....

I was about your age when menopause really started in full.

I also have only one ovary btw.

I skipped months of menses. I had two menses two weeks apart at some times. It was light...it was heavy! There was no predicting! Actually it was a LOT like how my menses began when I was at the tender age of 10! lol

The beginning...and the end. Alpha and omega.

By 51, my periods had stopped completely. The hot flashes went on for a bit...lol

My sex drive went up about 110 times!

I never went to the doc specifically for this, but by all means do NOT rule that out! I did not ever feel, for ME hormone replacement therapy was something I wanted.

But, by all means, schedule an appointment with the doc - and find out your options!

best!

It could be peri-menopause.
Christianne Northrup is a great author on this subject.

See your OBGYN. Sometimes u can call the nurse and she could chat w/ you. Or ask the OBGYN to call you. Then, s/he will let u know if u should be seen.

Sounds pretty common! Periods are all irregular, heavy, light, long, short, etc., when you get ready to stop. Pray that you don't get the hot flashes. Ugh!

It might be menopause, but I do think you should visit the doc to see what's going on. If you have periods pregnancy is still a possibility. How heavy is the period? Are there lots of clots? I did have some of those problems and it wasn't pregnancy, but it got to the point where I was on my knees begging for a hysterectomy! Why not at least call the nurse at your gyn's office and ask a few questions.

Get blood work done. You will have your answer. Might be the beginning of menopause.

There are birth control pills that are specifically for women your age who are starting menopause. It keeps you more regular and sort of eases they symptoms.

I was 10 years younger than you are when this happened to me-finally after a year and a half of bleeding almost daily, I had a hysterectomy. In the 11th hour, the insurance company said they would not pay for the surgery and I told the doctor that I would pay cash-in the end, insurance company did pay for the procedure, but I was so debilitated by that time I would have done anything-including parting with the cash. Best of luck!

That sounds exactly like what I've been dealing with. I am 42, about to turn 43. It started last year(2012), if not a little bit into the year before (2011). At one point I went 7 months without a period, only to have them kick back in (boo!!). It started out slow like yours. A skipped month or 2. Really light then lasting forever. In fact the last period I just had was completely exactly like yours that you just described.
They ran blood work, did a pelvic ultrasound and a few other tests. Best guess was I was peri-menopause. Reminds me, this is about the time they wanted to have me come back in.
I would make an appointment with your doctor to rule out any issues. But it very likely is the beginnings of menopause.

If it's been a year since you saw your doc, go ahead and make the appt. It can't hurt to let her know how things have changed. She can also check your blood/hormone levels to see if you are pre-menopausal.

I stopped having periods at 51. I had stopped before and gave away all of my feminine products and then it returned.

sounds like Perimenopause. Also, fibroids will cause intermittent bleeding and bleeding on a daily basis. why? because depending upon where the fibroids are located, they can press up against the endometrium lining and cause bleeding.. Moreover, if you do have fibroids, they can block the blood flow and either allow it to come out sparingly as the blood tries to flow slowly past the fibroids, OR.. in clumps... due to it building up...
Also, don't discount the frequent flux of Estrogen and Progesterone... that can also cause more bleeding..

Hi M., I started menopause at 50 and it took a good year to two years to complete the transition. I suffered with some hot flashes and night sweats and my Dr. prescribed the Nuvo Ring to help and it really got me through. The hot flashes were pretty bad for me. I am now all done and feel great, no more PMS, no more periods and my sex life is fabulous.

I was dealing with excess weight for the past ten years and discovered something very helpful. I do a five minute workout each morning and this has made a world of difference. I have toned up and feel so much better with this workout. Check out Team PJW, or TeamPJW.com to learn about this amazing workout!
