Hi,

I am not pregnant yet, we aren't even trying quite yet, but I was just wondering if anyone had trouble getting pregnant with their second child if they got pregnant easily with the first. We got pregnant with my son on our very first try, but several people I know got pregant really easy with their first baby and then struggled to get pregnant with their second. I am just concerned and afraid that I will struggle to get pregnant. Also, after my son was born I ended getting a hypothyroid which can interfere with fertility as well. I still don't have it completely fixed, but I am on medication which is helping. Am I worrying too much? I guess if anything, worrying is going to alter my fertility? Thanks for any advice!

What can I do next?

I think everyone is different and each time trying can be different. For me it took 3 months with my first. WE struggled for awhile with our second. After about 7 months of not getting pregnant I finally tried an over the counter ovulation kit and got pregnant the first time. We miscarried and when my body was ready again I used the kit and got pregnant right away again. all in all it took us just over a year. I obviously swear by the ovulation kit. Good luck.

I think the big thing is to not worry about it. The more you think about it the harder it could be. With my first baby I tracked everything and can say I really "tried". We got pregnant on the 2nd month of trying. I am now pregnant and I got pregnant on the 5th month of trying. I did not track the 2nd one at all!!! It was so much better not tracking anything and just enjoying my life and time with my husband. My Dr. said when "trying", the normal time is 8 months for a couple to get pregnant. He called us some what lucking getting pregnant the 2nd month the first time around. My Dr. said it might not happen that fast with my 2nd one, and not to worry about it if it doesn't. I don't think I would have worried about getting pregnant until that 8 months passed.

Good luck! And don't forget to have fun!!!

Hi T.,

I had no problem getting pregnant with Baby number one but struggled with baby number two for over a year. Thyroid problems can lead to miscarriages, so I would wait until it stabilizes to try. Stress was my biggest problem and as soon as that was resolved we became pregnant again and I am glad that there is a three year gap between kids, not two! I would suggest acupuncture and massage to balance the body and get ready for baby number two. I run A Mellow Mood Family Spa and can get you a great discount if you need!

Sorry to say, but yes #2 was difficult. We got prego with #1 on the second month, and #2 took us 1 1/2 years. Wish I had a better answer for you, but I have also heard the same thing over an over again.
