Very Dry Skin on My Hands

Hi Amy- My 6 yo daughter all of a sudden came home from school and noticed her hands were hrting her and I looked closely and after a day or two we chalked it up to Chapped hands. No different to chapped lips. Also, they wash ther hands so often in school so, that wasn't helping anything. I picked up "Gold Bond" hand lotion/cream in a small travel size. (In the travel aisle with all the soaps and things at Wal-Mart)

I would put it on her in the morning afternoon and especially at night when she slept and they are completely better. She never complains about them anymore either.
The best thing too was that it cost me less than $1.00

OK.....This is going to sound CRAZY but it really works.
Usa Vicks Vapor rub on your hands at night and put on a pair of gloves. Sleep with the gloves on.
This will relieve the soreness of cracked skin, and really soften your skin....do thes for a couple of nights and then do it from time to time to keep skin soft and keep them from becomming cracken and sore.
It really works!!

I normally use Nivea Enriched Lotion in the dark blue pump bottle. I have found it to keep my entire body moisturized under any condition. It is a bit oily when applicated, but it absorbs quickly and keeps skin soft and healthy looking.

Renew is awesome! It has helped my boys' dry skin so much. :)

I found that if you use a lotion or hand cream that really has no scent to it, it works alot better. Also creams seem to work better than lotions. You can try buying thos hand socks, ya know you use a thick lotion and put them on when you go to bed. Melaleuca has there Renew Lotion and I LOVE there Body Satin body cream as well.

I use Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream. I get dermatitis in the webby part between my fingers, and last night I got desperate and put some of my daughters Dr. Smith's Diaper Ointment there. Its still a bit dry but all the redness and irritation are gone.

Some hand soaps dry out hands really bad especially during the winter time. Stay away from anti-bacterial soaps. I was watching a news report one day that said the antibacterial soaps are no better than regular soap and water. The anti-bacterial agents can dry out skin too. Use a regular hand soap that is moisturizing. I use my daughter's lotion: Lubriderm Sensitive Skin Therapy(lanolin free, dye free, and fragrance free) or Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream. She has excema. I normally get really dry and cracking hands during the winter time. Since I do pest control, I wash my hands constantly. When your skin is cracking you really want to be careful what you use because that can irritate it more. There is also Aquaphor Healing Ointment that works really well, but its greasy. Good for those bad cracks on your hands at bedtime. I like the Lubriderm the best. Once it soaks in, got to give it a few minutes after putting it on. There is barely any greasy feeling. I can't have butter fingers doing pest control.

I get the same thing & my hands end up cracking & bleeding-it's awful! I dan't like the way lotions feel on my hands(the greasy feeling). I use Udderly Smooth. It feels like water going on & it really works. You can get it at Target or Wal-Mart.

I use Arbonne cleansing gel and lotion. The cleansing gel cleans without striping your skin of its natural oils and nutrients. Then I use the lotion which doesn't contain mineral oil so it is able to penetrate your skin and moisturize starting deep within the layers of your skin. MANY lotions have mineral oil which is TERRIBLE for you skin and doesn't actually moisturize your skin. The molecules of mineral oil are larger than your pores so the mineral oil actually prohibits the lotion from going into your skin AND traps bacteria into the pores. Hi Amy - I use Renew and it works great!! I have also used it on my girls (3 & 10) for the past 2 yrs and it works great on them too...it doesn't feel greasy after putting it on either.

My hands crack and bleed in the winter time, and the only thing that works for me is Norwegian Formula hand lotion. It is formulated for fisherman who work in the icy waters. It is not greasy and does not have a strong odor. You can buy it at WalMart or anywhere.

Cetaphil "hand cream" (in the tub, not pump bottle) worked great for my son's hands when he had excema because they were dry in the winter. The carry it at Sam's, if you're a member- much cheaper. They also have a Vitamin E hand cream at Sam's (but it smells like a grandmother). Works great.

Try rubbing them with Peanut oil - make sure it is Cold Pressed - not the one you get at a grocery store. You can find it at a Health Food store!
