Hi Moms,

I just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant...yay!!! This was unexpected because I just got off the pill and my husband and I weren't exactly "trying". So unexpected that I Already have a trip to Vegas planned for my best friends 30th birthday in January. I will be about 10 weeks at that point. I know there is still plenty to do there besides partying but I'm worried because I'm still so early. What to do??? I would love to still be able to go and be there for my friend but would be devastated if something happened.

Any advice???

What can I do next?

Can you specify exactly what it is you're worried about? I assume you won't be drinking or doing drugs so I don't see how this would be different than any other trip.

Why wouldn't you be able to go? The only thing you couldn't do is drink alcoholic drinks. You're pregnant, not sick or disabled.

I can't think of anything about being in Vegas that would be harmful to your pregnancy at ten weeks, except drinking. You can still go and have fun, but you may feel left out if your friends are partying.

I seriously don't see a problem. You can still dance, gamble, eat and see the shows.

why on earth not? what will happen in vegas that wouldn't happen anywhere else? it's a city with lots of pregnant women who live there year round.
if you're not drinking or doing drugs, i can't figure out what the concern is.

No worries! Congratulations and have a wonderful time!

Just a suggestion, though... Vegas is very very dry. Make sure you are drinking enough water. This may sound like strange advice, but my girlfriends and I went there a few years ago and went out for a run one morning- nothing "heavy", just a few miles at a light jog, and had to stop at a Starbucks for water because the air is so dry.

There is a lot to do in Vegas that doesn't involve alcohol- shows, museums, shopping, gambling, sight-seeing, etc. Have a great time and don't push yourself too much! Remember that you have a great excuse to go lay by the pool for an hour or so!

get some good fun and girl friend time in before baby takes over your life. The only harm is that you may be too ill and tired to keep up with your friends. I went to a vegas business convention trip at 8 weeks and had to go to bed early while my coworkers lived it up, but I still got enough out of it.

I'd go... without any worries. As long as you're not drinking or around people smoking, it's pretty much the same as having a busy weekend at home. Just drink a lot of water so you don't get dehydrated!

I wound up being in my first trimester for a long-planned girls Vegas weekend (a bunch of us from across the country reuniting to celebrate our 4-0). It was all good, except for the fact that I was tired and couldn't stay up late.

Go. Have fun. Beg off when you have to.

Go and have fun. As long as your not drinking or doing drugs you'll be fine. Don't worry about something happening. Have a good time.

No risk to the baby at all, as long as you don't drink. The only issue you may have is morning sickness since that is most common in the first trimester - no guarantee you will feel great. But that doesn't affect everyone, so you may be fine.

Congrats!

I went when I was expecting my second and I was fine. I just ordered all my drinks as virgins. The only thing you won't be able to do is the Gondola rides because that is their rules. Just go and have a great time without alcohol or drugs!

Hum, I remember a lot of smoke in the casinos! Smoke made me puke when I was pregnant - and it isn't good for your baby. What are your friends going to be doing? Also, make sure you keep yourself hydrated - especially if you are flying there. You will want a water bottle on the plane (take an empty in your carry on bag and then fill it at a water fountain after going through security) and lots of snacks so that if your plane is delayed you don't face nausea from having an empty stomach.

You should be fine traveling. I traveled when I was 10 weeks (travel already planned) and had no problems. However, the only person who can really answer your question for sure is your doctor, so I encourage you to speak with him or her - or at the very least an advice nurse.

One thing I'd be concerned about, though, is exposure to second hand smoke. I'm pretty sure there is no place in Vegas where there isn't smoke in the air. Ask your dr. about that too.

Congrats and good luck!

Go, but don't drink and DO get sleep -- be tough if your friends want you to stay out "just a little later" - go home instead. Be prepared to listen to your body and stop and leave your friends to go to your room when needed.

I had to smile when I saw the title of the post. I had JUST found out I was pregnant when I had to fly to Vegas for a week for a pretty intense business trip, and my bosses did not know I was pregnant yet. I was scared just like you are but went on the trip. The flight in was horribly delayed into the wee hours, luggage didn't arrive, etc. so the first whole day I felt awful physically and was worried I would not be able to work when things got going the next day. But I just decided that if I felt that bad the next day I would go to my boss, tell him I was pregnant and would not take the risk of working that day, and deal with the fallout (there wouldn't have been any because my bosses were all great).

The next morning after a real night's sleep I felt normal and worked the week, but was careful to eat healthily, drink water a lot and eat small healthy snacks between meals. I had a good time -- but then I was there to work and had to be ready for that, so there were no temptations for late nights or long meals or alcohol!
