I have to say, the nothing beats the Dyson for performace and value! I've had mine for about 5 years, vaccum almost every day, and love it! Why do you not want a bagless? I had one bagless before this, and hated it because I was constantly having to clean a clogged filter, but with the Dyson that's not a problem. It's really easy to empty and clean out. I would never buy a different brand!

We have a Royal. We LOVE it. Much cheaper than the Dyson and not as hard on my floors. I have heard Dysons are rough on floors. My Royal is all metal...so it's not super lightweight...but it also means it will hold up well for a long time. We have a lab who sheds non-stop and it does a great job. We have hard wood and carpet and we can use it on everything. It looks totally 1930s...but it's a terrific upright vac.

I love, love, love my Bissell. It is bagless, but it picks up everything!! No joke. If you have pets this is a great machine. I vacuumed with my old one then went back over with the new one and holy smokes, it was crazy how much my old one was leaving.

Hello S.-

I know you don't want a bagless, but I wanted to give you my quick thoughts. I purchased a Dyson 2 years ago, mostly because I have ashtma and wanted to get the dust out. I liked the idea of the bagless vac, because bags for my Hoover were $7 for 3. Ouch!!

Even though the Dyson was really expensive, after my first use I realized it was worth it. I ALWAYS vac my house weekly. In fact, I had just vac'd my house the day before I bought my Dyson. I decided to see how the new vac worked, and started to vac right away. After a few swipes in my livingroom the dust bind on the Dyson was full. I was also able to pull 2 more binds full of dust from my bedrooms too.

I feel my house is cleaner now with the Dyson. I hope this helps you a little.

We love our Sebo - German engineered and outstanding! Lindhaus is very good too. You may need to check these out at a vacuum store rather than a place like Target.

I don't like bagless either.....just gross to me... and the thought of emptying it making me sneeze is a turn off.

I have Oreck and LOVE it. Lightweight, great warranty. I use it daily and have had no issues at all. Also, it is easy to use up and down stairs.

I have 2 Hoover's (1 up and 1 down) and they are good, less expensive but I LOVE the Oreck.

My mom has a Dyson and she hates it....it is heavy, harder to use and she is so unhappy.

I spent about $800 and it was a great investment.

I have a Hoover Widepath Tempo. It is bagged (very important for those of us with allergies) and was a Consumer Reports Best Buy, which is how I found it. You can find it on Amazon for less than $100: http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-U5140-900-Widepath-Bagged-Up... . I've had mine for over a year now, and it still has the strongest suction I've ever encountered (although the cord is a little short). Oh, and I have 2 cats and 3 dogs - an Australian Shepherd, a Bearded Collie mix, and a Fox Terrier (all three shed heavily year-round) and this thing is still going strong. HIGHLY recommended. Good luck.

When we had our daughter 14 months ago, we bought a new one...we have 2 choc labs and I knew I wanted a good one. We spent about $700 but love our SEBO X5. Works well and has a bag and filter...they rank it high for those with allergies and in hospitals, etc. We are pleased with it.

I'm curious, why don't you want a bagless? I totally get the Dysons are expensive and not for everyone. I have one though.. sucked it up and forked over the money because I was tired of buying vacuums every couple years because my area rugs still looked like I hadn't vacuumed them. I have allergies and the Dyson has a hepa filter which helps. Our house has been under construction off and on for 10 years and that thing picks up even the finest dry wall dust so I don't have to breathe it in. I take the canister outside to empty it so none of the dust stays in the house. I have wood floors, carpet, linoleum, area rugs.. works everywhere. I used to have to Swiffer the wood and linoleum floors and vacuum everything else because the other vacuums wouldn't pick up the dry wall dust.

i have to say that my dyson is awesome, soooo worth it. we went through 3 or 4 vaccums, no joke, and not cheap ones, either. i finally bucked up and bought the dyson and i am never going back. i vaccumed with it right after vacumming with my last one, a eureka, i think, and i couldnt believe what it picked up that the other left behind. gross. i have allergies, i just empty the canister into the big pails outside, you dont have to bring the vacuum out, its a little trigger to diconnect the canister, i bring it out, and then another trigger to empty it. i cant recommend it enough.

I searched and searched for a great vacuum because I was going through them fast because of my dog's hair. I finally found a vacuum it's a Eukera air extreme and I got it at Target for $200.00 it's a canister vacuum and I LOVE IT it hasn't clogged up on me at all and it's been three years. BTW I was going through 2 to 3 vacuums a year before I found this vacuum. I also went to a local vacuum store and found other models that ran $600-1,000 and I so didn't want to pay that much and I did a little research and voila I have an excellent vacuum. Best of Luck to you!

I have the Eureka smart vac "the boss" and I LOVE it. (Check out consumer reports, it's ranked very high up) I have a friend who has both the dyson and the eureka and she has said that they are extremely similar. The eureka has the heppa vilter as well and uses bags which I have found easily at Wal-mart, Target and Bed Bath & Beyond. Best thing is that the eureka is half the price of a dyson. Good luck!

Simplicity - made in USA. Salesman jumped up and down on it to show sturdiness. It has 2 filters a 30ft cord. Auto shut off if it gets clogged or overheated.
