I am getting my daughter vaccinated just like I did with my first. If you had your children vaccinated at there well baby visits what reactions did they have to them if any? What did you do to help the symptoms ease?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

SfromTX I said JFF since this can be a controversial topic and I didn't want it to turn into a "big deal" So that's why I put it in my title. I suppose you are right about that though...sorry, I'm knew to these abbreviations on here...I recently asked what they meant...I just thought it would be a JFF since it's about other peoples experiences and did not want to make it a HUGE thing. =P

I have had both of my kids follow the vaccination schedule and they have never had any kind of reaction to any of the shots. My pediatrician always gives a paper that explains the vaccination, what it's for, what to look for and what to do if there should be a negative reaction.

Your question doesn't match your post title.

Maybe its just me but whether or not to vaccinate your kids doesn't fit the JFF category.

I had all three of my children vaccinated. I did not do the normal vaccination schedule. As I didn't want 3 to 5 going in at once. We talked with our pediatrician about how we wanted the vaccination schedule to go - they respected our wishes and worked with us.

I had my daughter vaccinated as recommended by our medical community based on current scientific knowledge. She had absolutely no reactions to any vaccination. I don't "believe" or "not believe" in vaccinations. I read and understand the science behind vaccinations and therefore, vaccinated my baby/child as recommended by current science.

my son had a bad reaction to prevnar. He screamed (literally SCREAMED) for over 5 hours after, had a fever, and broke out in a rash. He is not allowed to have that one anymore. Other than that, just fevers and slight fussiness. But, we always only did 1 at a time. Never more than that. I am refusing the chicken pox one and I might possibly not even do the rest of everything else for my son who will be 5 in July. If I could go back in time, I would not do any of them at all.

My children have had all vaccinations, but this new baby of mine will have them all, but on a different schedule like the other moms posted so she won't be getting so many at once. You are supposed to get a piece of paper explaining each vaccination, what symptoms could arise and what to do if that happens.

I usually give my child a dose of the infant/child Tylenol about an hour before the shots, so that it starts working quicker to ease any oncoming inflammation at the shot site/low grade fever/ or ache that is fairly common with some of the vaccinations.

Dr. Sears has some pretty good info on scheduling and vaccines:

My son was vaccinated on the current recommended schedule with absolutely no reactions. What do I believe? I believe in science - in randomized, controlled studies, in evidence based medicine. This in not really a belief issue, any more than gravity or arithmetic (or evolution or climate change) are.

My daughter is 17 and I ALWAYS followed the pedi recommendation on vaccinations.

She never had an issue with anything except I did not know at the time that a booster for chicken pox would be needed. She was one of the first to get the pox vaccine and ended up with a very mild case of the pox at age 11.

We will not agree to have the Guardisil vaccine. It is the only one I have ever refused. We feel if someone is proactive with their health and gets routine preventative care, which we do, there is not a need to be exposed to this vaccine which has had some pretty bad results for some young people. Now, that said, if someone has no routine preventative care, I can see where Guardisil might be worth a risk. We (as well as my Dr and daughter's pedi) do not see Guardisil as a safe vaccination.

We also do not get flu vaccines.

I vaccinate, my son would sometimes get cranky and run a small fever, my doc suggested we come to the appointment with Children's Tylenol and at the begining of the appointment give him the proper dose - about 20 min in he got his shots and we went home and relaxed. I think the Tylenol was a good "prevenative" for the potential discomfort and I only used it when we had a "quad" or something like that. When we were discovering an issue with his immune system we took a break since he was undergoing TONS of blood draws and frequent testing, once we knew what we were dealing with we got him back on track over a period of 4 months. My son's immune system issues had NOTHING to do with the vaccinations and everything to do with his neurological issues.

When my son was little (now 20) we typically gave him a dose of Tylenol just before the shots as a precaution. I was young, that it what I was told to do so I did. With my daughter (now 5) I have never given her anything. They never had a reaction to any vaccination. My daughter did have an irritated site with her last time but that can happen with ANY injection. It was red, slightly raised (basically very mild cellulitis). The doctor treated w/ Amoxicillian, iced it twice a day. She was and is fine.
