Well Saturday was a terrible day! We did put our dog, Bella down. Thank you everyone for your kind responses. This was so hard. My husband, daughter and myself were with her until the very end. She went peacefully and it was so quick. I was surprised at how fast. She is being cremated and her ashes will be scattered near the Bay (Galveston).
The house is so quiet! My husband and I spent most of the Saturday out because we just couldn't stand being home. So spent some time yesterday (Sunday) on the computer looking at Corgi puppies! I'm not ready yet but I just needed to look at them. We talked about her yesterday, some tears but a lot of laughter as well. Our son is petitioning for a German Shepard, not going to happen! But we are all trying to move on. Thought I heard her last night and when I got up in the middle of the night, I saw my pillow and for a split sec thought it was her. =)
So how is everyone's Monday? I'm still upset about my Texans!!!

Oh S. . . . so sorry for you guys! I am thankful that she went quickly and peacefully. What a loyal and loving friend for your family. <<hugs>>
I am sorry S.!
Take your time when choosing a new dog. You know it's not going to be easy getting one as great as Bella, it never is! So don't rush it. Listen to your gut and your heart and you will find the next perfect dog...when you are ready!
I am with your son: German Shepards are good dogs!
So sorry you lost a member of your family. Puppy love to you all.
my mil passed away from cancer five years ago. she had a toy poodle that was OLD like could hardly walk kind of old. the dog only liked my mil. we also had her cremated but we placed her ashes at the grave. dug a small place and had to do it on the sneaky side. we werent suppose to put the dogs ashes there! idk but it sounded like there were several laws about the ashes. i think most pertain to humans . it might just have had something to do with the cemetary? not sure but you might want to check the laws or make sure no cops are around before you spread your sweet dogs ashes.
My heart goes out to you. When my Callie passed away my little Jack Russell stopped playing. He just moped around for a month. Slowly he came around. That made Callie's loss so much worse.
German shepherds are really great dogs. They can be intimidating but they are gentle souls.
Go to pet loss.com and write a tribute to your beautiful Bella. It will be there forever. Four years later and I still go back and read mine and cry. It will help. Hugs.
We had to put our lab down early December ~ I still hear her, see her and feel her presence. And I still cry, a lot.
I'm sorry about your loss ~ it's never easy.
Oh, and I was rooting for the Texans too!
I know all about the "ghost dog" feeling.
After we had our Zoe put down, first thing the next morning, I went to her kennel to let her out to potty, and of course, her kennel wasn't there. The empty space in the den looked like a black hole, sucking light out of the room.
My condolences to your family.
Give yourselves as much time as you need to grieve. And when you are ready to add a new pack member, please reconsider the GSD your son is petitioning for. They are WONDERFUL.
So sad but it was the right thing to do if she was suffering.
A new puppy will bring life and love back into your house and is something to look forward to.
