Up Twice a Night- Feels like Hangover

So I started a new diet in hopes of it making me feel better. (lots of fruit and veg but no dairy , meat coffee or alcohol) . But at the end of the day, I think the perpetual hangover feeling I have is from waking twice a night to feed 5.5mo old baby. I dread CIO. I dread waiting to see how long it takes her to make it through the night. We have one meal of rice cereal in the evening but have not seen sleep improvement yet. Any advice? I'm okay getting up once a night for the first year, but twice is really taking its toll.

update: I am eating unlimited nuts, beans, and avocado, some low fat cheeses. And the hangover feeling was there long before the diet. So no, its not protein.

What can I do next?

I'd be concerned that you're not getting enough (any) protein which is certainly adding to the dragged out feeling.

I'm not clear on how this diet makes you feel better. It doesn't seem to be working.

Are you drinking enough water with your new diet? Sometimes if I wake with a "hangover" feeling (when I haven't had any drinks) it's usually because I neglected to drink enough water that day.

Good luck!

At that age, a baby is capable of sleeping through the night. Can't recommend CIO highly enough. Our kids both slept through the night within days of doing CIO. The first night is tough, but once you see how it works, you'll be like pediatricians who champion CIO ... love it!

If its not making you feel better... then I would not continue it.
It is not meshing with your body....

For a baby, per our Pediatrician.... for the 1st year of life, baby needs to be fed on-demand. And especially when hitting growth-spurts too... because their intake needs increases. For the 1st year of life.... breastmilk/Formula is a baby's Primary source of nutrition... not solids and not other liquids.

A baby will sleep longer... as they get older. It is a natural occurring thing.

My kids as babies, if this makes you feel better... had GINORMOUS appetites... I was breastfeeding... and they woke more than your baby, at that age.
And when teething, they will wake more.

I agree - drink LOTS of water. I also found taking a B- complex vitamin was very helpful with energy levels. As far as the baby goes, I agree - twice a night is tough, but she's still young. Can you try to feed her more often during the day... sounds strange, but sometimes works... good luck!

Dragged out feeling, no energy----what are you eating for protein? Protein is necessary for strength and energy, so be sure you're getting enough. CIO works great if you get a pair of earplugs. She's old enough to sleep without eating, and it won't take more than a couple of nights to get her to sleep through the night. You are still recovering from the birth process, so let everything but you and the baby go for now--housework,dishes, whatever. Sleep when she sleeps, if you can.
