I have been having very vivid dreams & nightmares for the last 2 weeks. I wake up and feel like I am still dreaming or still in the nightmare & it terrifies me for a short period then I wake up and realize that I'm awake (if that makes any sense) My question is this, has anyone else expereinced this and if so how did you deal with it? I have been very anxious since they started. Thanks

What can I do next?

Maybe you are pregnant or you are stressed about something. Try to find a way to relax before you go to bed.

Hi S.,

i dont know how old you are, but i also have a boy that turned 3 in July! he is my pride and joy! i am a stay at home mom too. and yes, financially, we do it. I go to an alternated med doctor because to be honest the reg. med doctors had me sooooo screwed up w/ my thyroid after i had my boy that all i could do was want to die if it werent for him,i probably would have. i had him at 36, so basically after waiting my whole life for my dream and to feel that bad. i had to seek something else. i was having some pretty bad dreams once too and it was my gallbladder. (that dont look right!) if you would like to chat, shout back at me!

Sorry, but I agree with the pregnancy suggestion. I have never had such vivid dreams as I have when I am pregnant.
Also, if I have had a particularly draining day, I take a tylenol to help me sleep, otherwise sleep is very restless.
Good luck and let us know what happens.

Yes, I have had nightmares like this. Often, they are from disruptions in your sleep pattern. Look carefully at any medications you are taking.... especially new ones. Even some antibiotics can cause nightmares, so it isn't just pain pills and anti-depressents. Some anti-histamines can alter your sleep pattern, too. If you are unsure, call your neighborhood drug store or hospital where you buy the medications and ask to speak to the pharmacist. They will be able to answer your questions about side effects of any drugs you are taking. Be sure to have the name and dose of the drugs handy when you call.

On a plus side, vivid dreams can be a way in which your sleeping brain can communicate with your awake self.... letting things that are bothering you deep down come to the surface, where you can deal with them. Remember your unconscious uses symbols. If in a dream, your car is damaged or missing, it may be talking about feeling trapped or unable to get to where you need to be. If your telephone doesn't work ( telephones never seem to work in my dreams), it can be about communication issues... not being understood or something in that area. If you change how you feel about the nightmares, and accept them as a symbolic message from somewhere else inside you, you can use them to destress your life, and they are not so disturbing. Remember, though, horrible nightmares about people dying or being injured are symbolic, too. It only means that you are worried about "losing them", like a friendship fading, being to busy to spend time with someone, a child going away to college, or starting Kindergarten, someone moving away, etc, or worried that they will be hurt by something with physical hurt standing in as a symbol for emotional hurt.

During upsetting, tumultuous times in my life, I got vivid dreams, some of them nightmares. They always stopped suddenly as soon as I figured out the message they were sending me.

Talking with my adult son and my mother,we discovered that we have three generations of the same vivid dream: being in an unfamiliar home, but in the dream it is your home where you have lived for quite a while, and discovering a room, wing or even a second story of the house that you didn't know was there. You had overlooked the door that was always there, or when you moved in, someone had put tall furniture in front of the door. We all experienced that we got this dream when we were overlooking an obvious solution to a problem. Since then, we all welcome these dreams as an encouraging "helpful hint" from within.

I hope your dreams turn out to be helpful, and that the nightmare part ends.

I read horoscopes off msn (astrocenter.com) they have a free listing called a Dream Dictionary, you can look things up that you are dreaming about by letter - for example A(alligator) in your dream. It is kind of neat. Maybe you can get a better idea of what you are anzious about ~ Just a thought.

Have a great day!

Wow. I am sorry to hear that. Something must be really stressing you out! When I feel that way, I take a natural anit-stress/anti-anxiety formula that calms me down, but isn't and every day requirement. If you want to know more about it, let me know!

Hang in there.

Hi S.,

While I haven't experienced exactly what you're saying, I can certainly see how scary that must be for you. I know after having a bad dream I'm really frightened and don't want to fall asleep for a while. I can only imagine how upsetting that must be.

You might want to sip an herbal tea before bed that helps you rest more -maybe a chamomile tea, a catnip tea, or I've also heard of taking valerian root (I don't know if it comes in a tea). It might just help you relax more.

You mention wanting friends near your age. Have you checked out local parenting groups etc? It's a nice place to start. Where do you live and about what age friend are you looking for?

Sweet dreams,

S.

P/S Love your body too :)

I can't say I have experienced these things you describe. This may be blatanly obvious but consider what you are doing before bed, tv, eating (if so what), reading, do relaxing things, are you taking medications or vitamin supplaments that could be causing these dreams and over active mind stimuli?
I take a vitamin supplament that caused vivid and bad dreams.

You may also consider prayer. Ask God to be with you and protect your mind even while you sleep. He has power over those things too.

I hope it improves soon! That must seem like you have no control over it and can be very disturbing. Blessings on you!

I have dreams like that sometimes, you wake up and it just feels so real! I take vitamins from this company that only makes all natural, toxin free products and they have something called Rest EZ, I take it on nights when I feel really restless or stressed, and it really helps calm me down so I can get a good night sleep, let me know if you want more info.
Also, I don't know where you live but I live in the Muskegon area and have a very energetic 2 yr old boy and would love to have a new friend!

I went through this after I had my son (8 now). I would have these vivid nightmares for periods of a few weeks, then they would taper off.

The worst was dreaming he had drowned and having it be so real that when I woke and he was snuggled up next to me in bed, I was actually surprised he was there. I had dreamed his death, his funeral, even well-meaning friends telling me I had to snap out of it.

I ended up with a diagnosis of post-partum depression, which they had watched me for as I had previously had a diagnosis of clinical depression in my early 20's. This wasn't soon after my son was born, either. He was 3 when I had that dream. So don't negate that some very serious hormonal shifts are going on for quite some time after you have your baby. Very definitely see a doctor. A few months on a mild anti-depressant and I was back to my old self. And fully capable of enjoying my little boy without undo fear or anxiety spoiling it for me.

Good luck.

I know exactly what your talking about! I too have had vivid dreams and nightmares that have scared me to the point where I wake and I am still frightened, I rely on my faith in Jesus Christ to help me. I usually will focus on Jesus, and pray and even praise Him for his divine protection over myself, my family, and my home. Believe it or not it really works for me, there is something about doing this that is instantly calming. I hope this helps you.

Might want to check into any dietary or suppliment changes. Excesses of vitamin B are linked to nightmares. Hope that helps.

Have you started taking a new med? Even the most benign of changes can make big differences on sleep.

Of course, if you are worried, discuss this with your doc. That's what they are there for. My emotional state has done crazy things since having my 2 youngest boys...and Im just now feeling like myself.
