Twins - Chances of Having Another Set.

We have 4.5 yo twin daughters. Now we have decided to try and have another child (twins weren't planned). Now that we are planning to try this time - what would the odds be that we have another set of twins? We do not know if they are identical or not - the testing came back inconclusive and that is all the dr could provide. They are both girls, and have identical birth marks, and potentially could be mirror twins (but would have to be idential to be mirror, and we don't know for sure). We would be happy either way - and as I recall, i was wearing large maternity clothes at 9 weeks last time - so i'd know pretty quickly if i was having a multiple or singleton birth. Thanks moms!

What can I do next?

I just posted this question myself a few days ago. My twins are 8 in December and they are fraternal twins. However, everyone ask me are you sure they are fraternal they look identical! Anyways my great great grandmother had three sets of twins!! Only one set survived though and the one's that survived were fraternal twins because they were boy/girl. We don't know what the other sexes were?? I obviously carry the gene but supposedly genectics play a role as well as the older you get. I was 27/28 when I got pregnant with my twins. I am about to be 35 in February so it scares me to death to think it could happen again. I just look at it like this though....God "chose" me to have twins.....if he chose to do so again there is a reason for it and I don't believe that he would put anything on us that we can't handle. Sometimes we don't think we can bare certain things just like I never thought in a million years I could do this -having twins but everything has been fine. Is it hard? Of course-even one child can be "hard". Is it financially straining? Yes-but God has always provided a means for us to eat and have shelter and clothing and honestly that is all we really "need". If your twins are identical then that is more of a "freak" of nature so to say. If they are fraternal that is more of a "genectic" thing and could surely happen again but not necessarily. How did they test your twins? Placenta? You could get them tested again via a different method. It would have drove me crazy to know if mine had come back inconclusive! I guess I would have always assumed they were identical from the looks of them however I know genectically speaking they would almost have to be fraternal in my case-lol! My doctor told me percentage wise but I cannot remember now what the chances were. A girl up the street from me had twin boys then she got pregnant again when they were 4 with a little girl so its a roll of the dice really you just don't know for sure but put your trust in God that no matter what everything will work out :())

1 in 12 if your twins are fraternal. My mom had twins and then two singles. My gram had one set of twins as well.

My mother is a twin and had twins, a rarity. I have known a few people to have multiple births more than once. Knowing the income of the people, they were not taking any sort of fertilities.

My sisters are identical, however sometime around high school, they no longer looked so identical. Now, they look completely different, yet still like sisters.

I've read that the chances of having two sets of twins are somewhere between 1:10,000 and 1:15,000. So, not very likely. I was scared to death of this same thing. My twins are now two, and I am seven weeks pregnant with a singleton. I thought for sure it was twins again since I was in maternity pants at four and a half weeks. But, my doctor has looked twice. There is only one baby. So, judging by the size of your stomach the second time is not a good indicator of multiples.

Good luck to you!
