What Are Symptoms of Twins?

I am 26 weeks pregnant with fraternal twin girls. I have a 23 month old daughter. I was not very sick with her. Before I knew I was pregnant with twins I knew something was different. I was so sick for the first 16 weeks. I always felt like I was going to pass out when I was standing up.

Congrats on your pregnancy! I work in Labor and Delivery in a large popular hospital in St. Louis, so I do have some knowledge in the department of pregnancy but not an expert by all means. There is not a for sure way to tell if there is a multiple pregnancy except by ultra sound of course BUT your progesterone level is pretty high for being as early as you are. The normal level is usually between 15-18 for a singleton pregnancy. However, this is not a reliable source for early detection of twins or multiples but I do think that your chances are pretty high considering that you are a twin yourself. You should have an ultra sound with in the next couple of weeks to determine your due date and to find out if you have a viable pregnancy so you will definately know then! Let us know! P.S. I also know that the whole skipping a generation does not matter because one of the nurses that I work with is a twin and she just had twin girls herself! Anything is possible! Its in Gods hands!

I am the mom of 4 year old twins. I also have a 15 year old daughter. I would not put too much merit in the hcg levels, as when I was pregnant with my twin boys, my were considered in "normal" range and I was told there was little possibility I was having twins. Four weeks later, they discovered twins when I had an ultra sound. For me, there was absolutely no difference in my pregnancies except I started showing much faster and much earlier with the twins. If it turns out that you are pregnant with twins, it is definitely more work, but they are such little blessings and so much fun! Best of luck to you!

I'm very happy for you.You really got your chances to be prg with twins, but you have to wait for your first ultrasound.If you are 4.5 weeks now waiting an other month will give you your answer.
You can not do anything about it, so just enjoy your pregnancy.

Hi! I am the mother of 6 year old twin girls. They are such a joy! But if anyone tells you two is no more trouble than one they are a lier! I also have a 10 year old. She was abreeze! And what a big help!My doctor said that severe morning sickness is a sign of multiples. The babies are sucking out all the nutrients that you are taking in.
I became very sick with morning sickness after the first month. In fact thats how I knew I was pregnant. I too had the very sore boobs, hurt to even put on a roomy bra. God forbid my husband touch them! I had a hard time keeping anything down once the morning sickness kicked in and it was 24 hour sickness. I had it for over 5 months. Couldnt stand to smell leather or coffee. And I got a big belly very quickly too.Never gained any weight until my 5th month. big belly no weight gain, figure that one out. It was always a joke between my husband and I that I was eating for 2 and then after the sonogram it wasnt so funny because it was true! I had a c-section because I had a previous one with my older daughter who was breech. But mine were high risk because one was over 35% smaller than the other one. They thought they might have twin to twin transfusion(sharing one amniotic sack and blood supply.) But thank god that wasnt the case and they were born one month early at 4'12" and 5'4" and were both 18 inches long. They never were on ventilaters and came home after 5 days in the NICU. They are our little miracles!Good luck to you! I wouldnt have traded the experience for anything!

I think twins skip a generation, so it is not likely you will have twins. Your child (ren) are more likely to have twins.
Don't worry about it too much unless your doctor thinks you may be pregnant with twin, one child will keep you plenty busy! I have 3 of my own. My oldest was almost born on Halloween, I went into labor on Halloween night and had him until the next morning. Take care and good luck!

Hi K., I am a mom of 10 year old twins and a 13 year old daughter. With my first pregnancy it was like not even being pregnant, never wore maternity clothes. As soon as I got pregnant with the twins it was crazy. I was wearing maternity clothes a 8 weeks and no one new I was having twins till the ulta sound at 4 months. I only gained 35 lbs with them they are fraternal. Twins do NOT run in my family or my husbands.
I new I was having twins cuz I was getting so big so fast. That was my early sign. I hope everything goes well for you and your pregnancy. If you have any other ? let me know.

My twins are 14 months old...those hormone levels can mean many things. Talk to your doctor about your concerns. They should be able to give you some answers. Good luck!

Congratulations dear, but as exciting as twins would be those symptoms are that of most pregnancies. My HCG level at 4 weeks was 265 and I gratefully only had one handsome little boy. unfortunatlly sore and big boobs will not go away until after delivery and thats only if you choose not to breastfeed. Good luck with the pregnancy and enjoy your baby or babies, Just alittle on HCG levels, they double every 48 hours unitl about 12 weeks and than they decrease, i have not met many ob's who concern themselves with the number once a fetal pull or heartbeat is seen/heard.

I am a fraternal twin. My twin brother has 3 kids and I have 2...no twins. My parents have no twin brothers or sisters, however, my grandparents on both sides had twin siblings.
What I've been told is that it skips a generation...likely that you won't have twins, but your child (children) will have twins.

I have fraternal twin boys and my blood count was like over 10,000, that was one of the signs I thought I had twins!! What does your doctor think? Talk to you soon If you have any questions feel free to ask?

I have two and half year old twin boys and a six year old boy. I remember having a lot of abdominal cramping from stretching faster with the twins and HCG levels were also higher. Other than that I didn't notice anything different, but we found out we were having twins at eight weeks. They did a sonogram because of cramping and previous miscarriages. your hcg #s would be considerably higher by now . . . At 10ppgt, I was @ 300 (w/triplets) . . .Also, I was VERY/VERY sick w my twin pg . . . congrats on your pg!

Well I have identical twin girls they are 21 years old. My tummy seemed to get bigger faster then it did with my first child but I had all the same symptoms with them as my first pregnancy so I never thought anything about it until I had way to many movements all over to be one in there and I talked to my Dr well he never did do a sonogram since he only heard one heartbeat but they evidently had the same heartbeats. He just told me I was going to have a big baby. Well 2 weeks before my due date he finally decided to do a sonogram to see how much was water and how much was baby. Well guess what there was 2 babies in there. I went 2 weeks over my due date and never had any problems at all and they was both 6 lbs 5 1/2 oz. A piece. So If you think something doesn't feel right just ask your Dr and if you are really worried push for a test. I wished I would of sooner and maybe I would of had more time to prepare for twins. They was healthy so I guess that’s all that matters. I wasn’t any sicker with having one baby as I was with my twins. Oh yeah also they say twins run every other generation but that is not always the case at least not in our family so far. Good luck.

I am a mom of 15yr old identical twin boys. I can tell you that when I went to my first OB appointment the doctor scared the daylights out of me, I thought something was really wrong with me. He was in and out of the room and brought in other doctors to listen to MY heart and they would all go out into the hall way and talk amongst themselves. I finally asked, whats wrong with me, then the doctor with no concern at all in his voice said "OH nothing, you just have an extra heart beat, everything is fine, its prominant in women carring more than one." It wasnt until a couple of months later when I had my ultra sound that it was confirmed TWINS. Best I can tell you. Good luck and enjoy your new baby(ies)

I just had twin boys this past July. We found out very early on that we were having twins. The first clue for us was my tummy measured a whole month too big for just one baby! We had a sonogram and sure enough, there were two little babies in there! Good luck and God Bless!

Very sore and big breasts are part of any pregnancy. Extreme nausea/vomitting can be indicative of twins, as well as showing earlier than average. If your OB is aware that you are a twin, he'll be watching for these things. He should be scheduling an ultrasound for about 8-10 weeks, anyhow. This will give a definite twin/no twin diagnosis.

Our HCG on day 14 was over 600. On day 16 it was well over 1,800!!! We have 1 (tomorrow) year old twin boys! Since you are 4.5 weeks out, you likely have one strong baby in there!

I just gave birth to twin boys two months ago. My hcg was well over 8oo with my first blood test, but the docs would not confirm until I had an ultrasound at 6.5 weeks (IVF). My doc said that sometimes people with low numbers are pg with twins and others have very high numbers are pg with only one. I would ask about an ultrasound to confirm. Big full boobs is par for the course. Congrats on being pregnant and I hope it is twins there is nothing greater:)
