I am trying to decorate my kitchen/dining room and I have a neutral color dinnerware set (tan with white flowers) and I want a color to accent the table. I am looking for placemats or a runner but I am not sure what color to use. I also have a mirror that has red, green, yellow, and blue in it and I could use one of those colors but im just looking for some ideas, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Hi D.,
Navy blue looks great with tan. I coordinated my living room and foyer & dinning room (greatroom) with tan and navy and I get so many complements! I am not afraid of color and I do not have 1 white wall in my home. Red would also look nice together. To really give you space a look take one of those colors and paint the walls. So many people are afraid of color...when really you only spending $30 and you can change it as many times as you want! Since you have kids..washable paint is wonderful! Hope this helps.

Your mirror sounds like a great focal point. I would use whatever color out of the mirror you like best. Pretty much anything will go well with tan.

It's kinda hard, not actually seeing the colors in person...but I've always like how red and tan look together. If you did red placemats, it would really make a tan plate pop out at you...if you want to go more earthy, I'd think about green too...that'd be neat.

Hope this helped a little!

Hi D...it's M.! I wish I had some creativity in my bones! I'd love to help you coordinate your kitchen but, girl, you definitely don't want my advice. We purchased a second hand furniture set for our family room which just happened to match the table cloth in our kitchen. It now makes since on what else we should do about our kitchen to make it look nicer. We can't even take credit for the work thus far. It just fell into place...thank God! One day I had some friends one day to just show up with a table runner and napkins to dress up my dinning room table a little more. I couldn't believe they purchased these things from Dollar Tree!

What type of table is it? Wood? Clear Glass top? What colors are the chairs? Color of the Countertop and walls? Typically when you have a neutral base like you mentioned, you can go virtually any color, however in my experience, the Reds, Maroons and Copper colors are now in style. They give a really nice "pop" to neutral colors without being overwheling! I also read somewhere that "red" stimulates the appetite! So, I guess it would be a great fit for a kitchen!

I think you should do red! I love tan colors with a deep red touch. It will brighten as well as be very elegant. Good luck!
