Trouble Getting Pregenant

By any chance have you been using any personal lubricants? We were and it suddenly dawned on me to stop. A few weeks later, I learned that they can inhibit pregnancy. Luckily my sixth sense kicked in and we have conceived.

I know it is frustrating it tooks us 5 months to get pregnant and I thought that felt like forever. I eventually used ovaluation tests which I think helped me.
I wanted to add that I was a Geriatric Case Manager for 4 years and then a supervisor for 2 in Ohio. I just recently got accepted to grad school for Social Work at FAU. Are you at FAU as well? I may need to come to you for advice, lol.

Hi There. I agree with everyone who says to relax a bit. I know it's hard because this is such an important thing and there are only about 2 days a month that you can get pregnant, but you have only been trying for 4 months, so it's really not all that long in the scope of things. Most fertility Dr.'s will not even take you on as a patient when you are only 31 and have only been trying for 4 months unless there is something that is obviously wrong (you're not getting your period, you're having miscarriages, etc.). (Be wary of one who will.) I highly recommend the ovulation tests (I found temperature charting difficult to track and time-consuming). The ovulation tests are very accurate and easy. If they show you are ovulating, keep trying. If they show you aren't ovulating, definitely go see your OB/GYN and see if they can run some initial tests to make sure your hormones levels are ok. You may want to do this anyways, just to give yourself a little peace of mind. From there, if needed, they can point you in the right direction as far as further fertility testing. Take it from someone who has had to go the fertility "intervention" route for our daughter (now 4) and our 2nd one (on the way). It is not something to just routinely jump into. It is an incredibly expensive (we were lucky our insurance covered us, but most don't), time-consuming (i.e. almost daily blood tests, ultrasounds), sometime painful (multiple injections daily for 2 weeks) and emotional roller coaster. Don't get me wrong - if you have to go that route, all of it is worth it in the end (kind of like labor - the memory of the pain fades every time you look at your child). I'm just saying don't jump into it after trying for only 4 months.

All I can say is that God will gie you the child when it is time. I know this becasue I had amiscarriage two years ago and my Hisband and I have been trying ever since to get pregnant again. My husband went to have painful test takenon him to see if there was something wrong with him now,e ven though he has a daughter already. The Dr's say that he is fine. My doctor told him to go get tesets first because he is easier to test. So he came back fine. Now , i was about to go get tested at afertility clinic and spend all this money. Just before i decide to go, i found out on Christmas Day 07 that I am pregnant. I am now 26 weeks pregnant. So this is why say no matter what you do , if God is nto ready for you to have a child, it will not happen. So dont get stressed and keepyour head up and think positive.

I agree with Julie and Ivonne. You need to relax and not worry so much. I have heard of so many cases where a couple try for years to get preganant and they finally decide to adopt and end up pregnant. Because the presure is off them now. I knew a couple and they could not get pregnant so they adopt a baby boy. After the baby boy they try again, putting presure on themselve again. They still could not get preganant. So they adopt another baby boy. As soon as the adoption process begins and the pressure is off and she got pregnent and had a little girl. They are a very happy family. I think if you take the presure of yourselfs and not think about it so much it will happen.

I wanted to send a little advice your way, since it took my husband and I about 5 years to conceive, we tried naturally for 4 years to no avail, got checked out and in reality didn't have anything detrimental that could keep us from getting pregnant, but probably the level of stress we were putting ourselves through caused it to become almost impossible, we finally went to an in vitro clinic, and after several attempts we finally did become pregnant with my first baby, since you have already had a baby I would be willing to bet that you can get pregnant easily and it's a matter of you being stressed out about it. You need to find peace and calm within you to let it happen, you can track your days with your cycle and monitor when you are ovulating, they sell kits at the pharmacy so you know when you are ovulating, (get the ones with a happy face, they are a few dollars more but it's so hard to tell with the cheaper ones) and you should be just fine, but relax, trust me relax!! take up yoga or something that helps you stay relaxed! Stress is the worst enemy of conception!! Good Luck!!!!

Why don't you go get a check-up with your gynecologist. My husband and I tried to get pregnant unsuccessfully for two years. I ended up getting checked and it turns out I had severe blockage in my fallopian tubes. I had my tubes removed and have two beautiful children, ages 3 & 2, who were born to me through in-vitro.

You might want to look into Fertinilty Awareness Method (FAM). It teaches women to recognise our own body's signs of fertility to track our cycle, which may or may not corolate to the "model" 28 day cycle.

Check out "Taking charge of your fertility" by Toni Weschler. There is a web site from this author at www.tcoyf.com and other resources online too.

I know it's hard, but you have to be patient. Unless I read your email wrong you have only been trying for 4 months. I am 32 and just gave birth 6 weeks ago to a baby girl so I was exactly your age when we were trying. It took us over a year to get pregnant after getting off the pill. I can tell you from experience that doctors will generally not even consider fertility testing unless you have been trying for a year. We were just getting started with our testing and had actually determined that we did have some factors that would negatively affect our chances of getting pregnant and then it just happened. Be patient, keep trying and most of all - try to think positively. Good luck!

The best suggestion I can give you is to RELAX!!! The more you go crazy trying, it's not going to happen. Watch the type of underwear your husband is wearing and watch your diet......there are websites that are more specific............just type into google "trying to conceive".....If still no success you'll need to see a fertility doctor.....All the best to you!

I agree with Cristi. Go to fertilityfriend.com, it helps you learn how to chart your cycles and every day chart your BBT, (basal body temperature), its your resting body temperature... you take it every day before you even get out of bed and by charting your temperature you can see it starting to rise about the same time you are ready to ovulate. The site gives suggested days to have sex corresponding with your BBT. I was 30 years old when my husband and I started trying and it took 7 months, then I started tracking my BBT through that website and it only took 2 months that way! My 2 sisters had very similar experiences...got pregnant within 2-3 months charting like that. It worked great and I swear by it, and will definitely do it again next time!
My son is now 4 months old :)

Try taking a break. If your biography is up to date you are pretty busy! Try focusing on just being as healthy as possible and on having fun w/ your huband. If that doesn't work in a few months talk to your doctor. I bet you will get pregnant the minute you graduate from school....Just due to having that all done!

It can take a "normal" couple up to a year to get pregnant. It can just be a matter of timing, or there could be some other issue. You could talk to your doctor, but often doctors won't do anything until you have been trying for a year. Are you getting regular periods? Are you charting your temps to find out if you are ovulating? You can also use ovulation predictor kits to determine when you are ovulating, so that you time sex correctly and don't miss the egg. There is a website called Fertilyfriend.com that has a lot of information and you can chart your temps on there to see if you ovulate regularly.

If all of that seems to be working, you could go to the doctor for tests to make sure you don't have any blockages in your fallopian tubes or other problems that may be preventing ovulation. Your husband could have a semen analysis to make sure that his count is normal and that they are mobile. You can also talk to your doctor about fertility drugs, like Clomid if you aren't ovulating regularly.

i suggest going to your OBGYN that also does fertility checks.
i was on the pill for almost 10 years before trying to have a baby and i had stopped ovulating all together so my dr. gave me a pill to take that got my regular schedule back on track and within 2 months of the ovulation pill i got pregnant.
my son is now almost 17 months old :-)

I had trouble getting pregnant myself.. I saw a great fertility doctor ( Dr. Eiserman) in South Miami area. Within 6 months of seing him i got pregnant- thru Invetro fertilization. We tried artificial ensemination 2x but since that didnt work we moved towards the IVF. I have a beautiful baby girl born Dec 6th 2007. IF you want the info - i totally recomend him and would do it again if i need to.

Nathalie, I don't know whether you believe in alternative "treatments", but here it is anyway. I have had a great experience with a herbologist/naturalist (my original issue was unrelated to pregnancy issues, but she did what my cardiologist and OB could not do simply with vitamins and minerals.) Her name is Gisela Hernandez and her business is Healthy By Nature ###-###-####. She is in Norht Miami Beach. I started seeing her after my miscarriage and she gave me a meal plan and nutritional supplements to get my body ready for pregnancy (for example, vitamin E, multivitamin, etc. nothing weird). My position is that you have nothing to lose with one visit and checking out what she has to say. I think that the first consultation is maybe $75 or $150?? Good luck!

I have heard very good things about acupuncture! You may want to consider do some research on it. I know someone that is an acupuncturist and I can pass along the name if you want.

I don't think you have trouble getting pregnant. You just may not know when you are ovulating or fertile. Most women have 1 or 2 fertile months out of each year. Relax!!! Stress can make it more difficult too.
The soul that may need to come in will come in to you when you are ready. Each baby comes to us when it is the perfect moment for the relationship with his/her parents and his/her life's purpose is in order. It is more than just having a set time table in your mind...it's more that there is a plan that you may not be aware of...just as we have very little control of anything.
I was in a 7 year relationship, did not use birth control & never got pregnant; was married 3 years and did not use birth control & never got pregnant; did IVF with my exhusband and was unsuccessful...today I am married 3 years and 4 months, I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter, a 6 month old son and I believe I am pregnant now AGAIN!
It's all in it's own time. I will be 37 years old this year and don't feel older than 25.
Hemp products help to keep the female organs healthy...you can find them in Whole Foods.
Caffeine and fatty foods can make cysts in the ovaries and make it more difficult to conceive...better to stay away from those.
I suggest buying a saliva ovulation detector and have fun!!!

Hi Nathalie- I see youve already gotten a lot of great advice- so you may not need one more- but I was in exactly your same spot last year. Im 31 and currently 7 months pregnant. It took us 10 months. 10 months of the monitor and pee sticks, doctors exams and my husband even got a semen analysis. So what ended up working for us was acupuncture. I know that may sound odd - but there are a lot of great acupuncturists out there who even specialize in fertility. The bonus is that you get excellent stress relief out of it as well. ( and isnt that what everyone tells you all the time- to just relax?) The premise of acupuncture is to bring your whole body into balance.. they don't just focus on reproduction or your ovaries etc. and they dont make you feel like there is something wrong with you. It really helped my whole sense of well being- and luckily for us it happened the first month. I liked it so much I kept going for several months afterwards though. I would think that it might have been a fluke but my brothers wife who been trying to get pregnant for 2 years also got pregnant after a month and a half of acupuncture.

Anyways its a slightly different alternative. Its painless and relaxing. There is a great book called the Infertility Cure online- which is about using acupuncture to increase fertility. Good luck to you and your husband. I know you'll see success.

I know this is a very personal question and it's going to sound silly but how many days are you having sex during the month? I had difficulties getting pregnant because I found out that I ovulate late in the month versus around day 14 of the month cycle. I got a book that was EXCELLENT decribing what happens during a womens cycle. It's by Teri Weshler (i think that's spelled right) and the title is Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It teaches you when your are MOST fertile and the best days to have sex. I also HIGHLY recommend a website call FertilityFriend.com. They will help you plot the chart to see when you should ovulate and have intercourse. I've been a member for 3 years now and they are terrific. If the book and website don't work for you then I would suggest doing the deed every other day and see if that brings you any luck. I feel for you. My husband and I got pregnant fast, but most of my friends grew frustrated b/c they did not and I lived their experiences through them. Like most others who posted, your first priority is to RELAX. Got to www.FertilityFriend.com and register, put in all of your dates, ie last period, length etx. This site helped me personally by giving me the "target dates" and it worked. It took us 3 months, if that. My friends have used this site also, and it has never failed. However, having said there, like another person on this thread mentioned, it may take a "normal - healthy couple" a year to conceive, so don't panic. If after several (6+months) nothing happens, then I would consider going to get checked out just for peace of mind. In the meantime, go on vacation, take a trip, go on a date, drink a little (if you drink)... relax, and it will happen.
