My 2 1/2 yr old boy will try to go on the potty. He pushes and nothing happens. If I put a diaper on he poops shortly after, which is at nap time and bedtime. He will ask for a diaper, should I put one on to keep him regular? Need suggestions.

Just guessing here, but it sounds like he's just not ready. We encouraged my grandson for several months--not pushing him but suggesting "don't you want to go on the potty like Daddy?" and that kind of thing. It was always "nope." Then one day I got a call from him, "Grandma, I pooped!" Yep, he was ready! :)

Obviously the diaper gives him the security to relax and make things happen. I would encourage him to simply sit and relax for a while, possibly read a book to him, or sing...something he would enjoy most and take him mind off of the project. Sometimes they have gas and think they need to poop, but they're not quite ready and in that case I would put the diaper back on and keep a close eye on him. Then rush him back and try again, however the timing seems that just having him sit and not worry about it's "coming" would help. Once it happens in the toilet, the problem should be solved.

It is true, they will go potty when they are ready! Just keep encouraging him; and reward him with kind words when he tries! He'll get there! I guess you are using pull up by now; and I'd continue to use them at certain times. When it is around that time, but slowly get him out of them. He is a normal child who will soon get it all by his self! It comes naturally with time. God bless you both!

I have heard of putting diapers on him and have him sit on the potty with diaper, to make the trnsition easier. If that works you could go ahead and cut a whole in the diaper and have him poop in the pooty that way, until he is ready to do it without diaper

Luckily, your son is still young, and if you just keep reminding yourself that he won't wear diapers to Kindergarten, everything will be fine and happen in time! My son would try, but not poop on the potty, for a couple of years. It turned out that he was afraid of potential pain and the longer he sat, the more anxious he got. He would poop in his Pull-Up, which I'm thinking is because he was more relaxed. He ended up withholding during the day and causing himself severe constipation and we had to have him on a steady dose of Miralax- which ended up supporting our urging to use the potty! This is an extreme situation, and this may not be the case with your son- but I thought I'd share since my son's experience would've been better had we figured out he had anxiety about pooping on the potty sooner!

My son who turned 2 1/2 in January was pee potty trained in October, but started in December asking for a diaper to poop in. I would give him one and not make a big deal. Then he would go into the bathroom with his diaper on and go. After 5-6 months of this it was a little much. I was at the park one day and he wanted a diaper and I gave him one. There was my son running across the park in a shirt, diaper, and shoes to the bathroom. After that I decided to cut a hole in the back of the diaper and have him sit on the potty. He wanted privacy in the bathroom, so I would leave. It took one time of him pooping "through" the diaper. It has been a month now and he is fully potty trained! Good luck, I recommend to all of my friends to cut the diaper! Try it and let me know how it goes!

Treats for going potty are the best for boys my son cant have candy so we would give him peanut butter on a spoon he LOVED it

but no if he is asking for a diaper don't give him one it will be messy if he goes but its a learning tool get some of those plastic pants if you don't have some the ones that go over the underwear if he does not go while napping as soon as he gets up head to the potty and make it often if he still does not go and kinda make it a game not to fun but fun enough where he likes it when my son would go I would do a happy dance and then I would tell him to flush and we would wave bye bye to the poopy not very long after he was fully potty trained

Another thing show him the treat he can have if he GOES in the potty that lets them know WOW I could have that and when they don't go they don't get it they start catching on

Hope all goes well for you guys and hope this helped a little
