A friend of ours has a daughter who is 5 years old and is having a Tonsillectomy. We want to get her a get well gift but not exactly sure what to get (possibly a gift card at 31 flavors for ice cream). Looking for some idea's. Thank you!

I can't think of the name, but online they sell bears that you can buy and the bears have themes (they probably have it at build a bear too) but you could get a "get well bear". But that might be a little pricey. Or I would say a lot of coloring books and the latest cool crayons or maybe a new dvd or something?
When I was at Oberweis, I saw they had a kids cone of the month club. You purchase this gift card and the child can get an ice cream cone every month for a year. My husband has the shake of the month club and loves it. Hope this helps.
Hi!! I haven't read any of the previous responses, but I babysit eight year old twins. They just turned 8 one week ago, and the next day, the little boy had a tonsillectomy. They, like so many kids, have tons of toys, and go through so many phases, it's hard to get something that they will enjoy for any amount of time. Also, I wanted to do something original for their birthday...So I got them a snow-cone/slushie machine. For the first couple of days, he was told to only eat ice chips, just very little, so before they even used it for the snow cones, they just made shaved ice with it. They do tell you to stay away from milk products for a couple days...But I know from experience that colder stuff feels better on your throat, so I thought it would be great, and it turned out to be!! It was not expensive, I think around $20 before you add in the syrups and cups, and their Mom has been thanking me since!! The kids of course loved it, and it was perfect timing with his surgery. I hope this helps you a little bit!!
Perhaps a Blockbuster card too, since she'll be sitting around for a while. I would also recommend some coloring books or hand held games and toys, because she'll not be going outside much for a few days. The ice cream gift sounds great too, as she will probably be sick of jello by the time she's done in the hospital!
Our daughter had her tonsils and adenoids out right before she started kindergarten and she was at home recovering for about 2 weeks. We loaded up on coloring/activity books, puzzles, little electronic games - things to keep her busy while she was healing.

My son had his out over the summer and any quiet activity would be nice as as a gift, coloring books, activity books, etc.
Also, our doctor told us that after the 2nd or 3rd day, he could chew as much gum as he wanted (gum keeps you salivating and thus keeps your throat wet - a dry throat is really sore!), so maybe her favorite gum! Popcicles were a good treat too!
Not sure if this is still true, but when I had my tounsils out they wouldn't let us eat ice cream for quite awhile because the milk coats the throat and causes phlegm. So, I probably wouldn't opt for the ice cream gift. How about something cool for her to do while she has to stay in bed ... a sticker book, coloring book w/ markers, something to pass the time.

Hi! What about a puzzle or a magnetic doll/scene/activity? My daughter had this done when she was four. She definitely needs "quiet" activities because she won't be able to speak well for a few days.
When My son had his removed in June the Dr. told me to stay away from milk products. Because she will be laid up a gift card to like Blockbuster and a package of popsicles may be nice.

That's so nice of you to think of getting something for your friend's daughter! If you look around Target or toy stores you can find lots of craft/art kits that are relatively inexpensive. The Crayola aisles have them too. I have been looking because my daughter wants a princess art kit for Christmas. Any art/craft activity that can be done in bed/on the couch is always great. I do know that you won't want to give an ice cream gift certificate since dairy increases the production of mucus and it's on the list of "don't eat" items after a tonsillectomy. Maybe a box of fun popsicles from the store that are a little different from the rest. No matter what you give, your friend and her daughter are going to appreciate the thought.
