Toddler Playing with Himself??

Ok moms.... I need some advice. My 3 yr old son has discovered his parts and enjoys the feeling. This has been going on for about 2 months. At first I was like ok, it's natural and didn't discourage it but made sure to stress that it is only done in the privacy of the house. Well now that is all I see him doing. He wears shorts over his underwear but slips his hand in his pants. The other day, I caught him touching himself on the outside of his shorts at the store. What is the best way to deal with this? And how long will it last?? If youre wondering, I do keep his hands occupied but not 100% of the time. And, he has learned to be a great multi-tasker. LOL!!

What can I do next?

Um, I'm still wondering this about DH ;)

Really though, this is still normal. My son is almost 5 and several times a day I lean down and gently whisper to him, "Hey buddy, that's for private time." He always takes his hand away and laughs, "Oh yeah, I forgot!"

It's a habit thing. They don't really think about it when they do it. No biggie, you and allllll the other mommas of little boys all deal with this one ;) Good for you for not freaking out.

Mine is 4, he does this too, and started at 3. They're boys and they're going to do it forever LOL is what I've heard. I tell my son not to touch his privates in public and try to re-direct. It usually works.

ALL boys do this
IT's like they have to make sure it's still there. You need to tell him to stop doing it. it's a habit that needs to be broken or he's going to be walking around with his hands in his pants everywhere. Just remind him that he needs to keep his hands from down there. My 6 yr old does it and I remind him to get his hands away from his pants. if you don't keep on him he will continue to do it ALL the time. If not because it's not polite , then for hygiene !

Just keep telling him that it's for private time only. Other than that, not much else you can do.

Keep telling him it is something that you do in private not public. does he play with anything like trains or trucks. Have him do puzzles, building blocks, draw, crafts. Take him to the swimming pool. Keep him busy so he does not think about it. Unfortunately, little boys do that. do not make a big deal about it. This too shall pass.
