I was diagnosed with Celiac disease nearly 2 years ago and since then have been to numerous doctors including homeopathic, somehow it never seems to get better or does for a while then I get tired all over again. I lack so much energy and need to get into a doctor who can help me diagnose and find out once and for all if there is anything else that is causing this continuous fatigue, I'm tired of being tired.

What can I do next?

Hi,

I do not have celiac disease or milk allergies, but I and my oldest son have multiple allergies that used to effect the way we feel, and still do somewhat if we are not mindful...

The place that I want to go to have a total analysis and treatment is the Total Health Institute. It may be a drive for you, but that are completely comprehensive in their diagnosis process and treatment. They also have you participate in cooking workshops so that you can learn to cook meals for yourself. Whatever it is that is causing you to feel the way you do, they will figure it out. They are similar to the Mayo Clinic in their leadership in the field and cutting edge approach, but locally here in the midwest.

Also, another thought, is that you may be eligible to get food from a local food pantry. Many families who are living on one income or on a tight budget receive food from food pantries.

Good luck!

I, too, was diagnosed with Celiac disease, but as a kid. From what I understand, you never outgrow the disease, it can just get better with time.

Before I read the other responses, my immediate reaction was that you should get your thyroid checked. I see that others have recommended the same thing. I was also diagnosed with hypothyroid about 6 years ago. Your thyroid affects EVERYTHING in your body. When mine is out of whack, everything gets thrown off from how often I go to the bathroom, how tired I am, to how cold I am. It's very common in women, especially if your mother or sister has a thyroid problem.

K. - I'm sorry you feel so awful! First think I'd suggest is going to www.kidwithfoodallergies.org They have an amazing message board that can help you with several of your requests. There's a food section that can help you make dinners to accomodate you and your dairy allergic child (and be good tasting for the others). There's a Chicago support section that can help you with drs. There's a main board that can help you with "what's going on with me". etc. I LOVE KWFA (my daughter is food allergic)!!! Email me off-line if you want more info.

Have you checked your thyroids? A correct level is between .3 and 3.0 - not what general docs still think of .5 - 5) You could be hypothyroid. My doc is in the city but he's the best. I'd suggest calling him. He's an endocronologist and also specializes in diabetes. That was another thought I had. Dr. Oyer ###-###-#### make appt
Have you been diagnosed with fibromyalgia? I have fibro and hypothyroid and fatigue are the major symptoms for both. Also there's good doc in chicago, Dr. Katz ###-###-#### Go to www.affter.org to find more about fibromyalgia. They're a locally based support group but work nationally. A great neurologist/sleep specialist is Dr. Freedom in Glenview ###-###-####. He knows a lot abt fibro too, as well as sleep, headaches etc.

Personally i believe in alternative medicine, but do not think it'll work for food allergies. To me that's too dangerous...especially with your child's dairy allergy. I guess w/ celiac not being potentially fatal, it'd be ok.

Good luck! I know how you feel!!

When I read your information, my heart went out to you. I throughly agree it is best to seek out the websites offered to you below. In addition, check to see if your insurance covers the cost of a consultation with a nutritionist. Often, if your doctor makes the recommendation the cost is covered. The nutritionist could help you and your child define meals that can work for you complete family.

In addition, my family and I have been using several products, which are gluten free and dairy free, to improve our overall health and for me, greatly increases my energy level. My children now rip and sip their multiple vitamin while I do the same for energy - no caffine for me!
