I have been giving my 7 month daughter Hylands teething tablets, 3 tablets 3 times a day for the last couple weeks! I didnt realize that you were only suposed to give it to the child for 7 days per bottle and if pain persists to consult dr or dentist.. well for the last 2 days i havent given them to her and she is almost unbearable!! I called my dr and he said not to give any more to her just a cold wash cloth.. which she is not a fan of! = ( not sure what to do, are the tablets really bad for her to take??
Huh, I gave my son the Hyland's brand often and for a while--like months. One time I thought he'd gotten into an almost empty bottle (I don't think he did now) but I called the number on the label and the pediatrician on call called me back. He said a kid would have to eat more than 3 bottles at one time to be concerned. So, I felt a lot better.
I don't think I'd worry too much.
Teething necklace!!! Baltic amber is another natural drug free way of pain relief. My son wears one day and night and I only give him teething tablets at night.
He cuts 2-3 teeth at a time. He is now on his molars right now. Get one. You wont be sorry. Plus they look so cute. I used to have an anklet but then his ankle got to big for it.
**As great as the let a child chew on a cold item, not all kids like it. My son would turn down anything that was cold. I really wish people would stop pushing it when you clearly say she doesn't take the cold wash cloth.
***Also Belladona is FINE in small doses. It's not like you are killing her like Romeo and Juliet. It has been used for hundreds of years as a sedative.

My pediatrician told us not use them at all. He said they were not really good for the baby and they do not help that much.
You might try homeopathic chamomilla. We found it worked better anyway. We use them as often as we need them.

I just read the other responses. Rachel is misinformed about homeopathy. It does not contain the herb belladonna. Yes,that would be dangerous. It contains the derivative of belladonna, which makes it a homeopathic remedy, not an herbal one. Homeopathic belladonna works to relieve pain. The herbal belladonna does the opposite. Many homeopathic remedies work that way. For example, ipecac induces vomiting. However, homeopathic ipecac soothes an upset/vomiting stomach. Odd, but that's how they work.
If you are giving her Hyland's teething tablets, please know that they contain varying amounts of a powerful sedative called belladonna. Please do your research on this drug before giving anymore to your baby in the future. The concern with this and other homeopathic drugs like it is that there is no standardized amount of this sedative per tablet. If your baby got a tablet with a lot of this drug in it, it could be harmful. Belladonna is addictive. Just because the label says "natural" doesn't mean it's always safe. Nurse Midwife Mom

Give her the tabs tonight and let her do w/o during the daytime. That is what I would do anyway.
I think that is a CYA kinda warning. You know they worry there could be some kind of underlying problem...not just run of the mill teeth pain.

My first child hated any thing cold. I had to warm her juice in the microwave. I would give her room tempature rags. I gave her hylands teething tablets a couple of times. She became even fussier. She would sleep lightly only in my arms and if I stayed extremely still. If I coughed or moved to get more comfortable it would startle her and she would scream as if she was scared to death. So I looked at the ingredients and was surprised to find Belladona aka evening night shade same plant Romeo and Julliet used to comit suicide. I believe they made Charity hallucinate. I gave her tylenol and orajel just until the tylenol kicked in. That was a life saver for me. I give tylenol and motrin and oragel to the youngest because tylenol does not seem to help her fever. Alternate if giving Tylenol and motrin and ask the pediatrician if she can have it(motrin). Hope this helps.

My kids, liked to chew on a frozen washcloth.
Dampen a little washcloth, then put in freezer. Take it out and let the baby knaw on it.
if they're that bad..then i'm in toruble. my son has been persistenly teething since he was 2.5 months, and had 16 teeth by the time he was 12ish months, and now working on the 2 yr molars. almost every day that the pain is getting really bad for him, i give him those. especially for sleeping... i guess people have a problem with the belladonna in those. i used to use the humphrey's strips/tablets..then walgreens started carrying camilla drops (which i dont think has it in there..not too sure) and it's great! a washcloth? wow, my son wouldn't be a fan of that either.. orajel, teething tabs & motrin are his best friend... lol
Frozen toothbrush is helpful too.

Where did you find the Hylands? Last I heard they were still recalled! I want some they worked wonders for my nieces and nephews but by the time I had my little on they were recalled! The humphreys don't work very well.

Our pediatrician strongly discouraged (this side of forbade) the use of Hyland's teething tablets, it's the belladonna in them, not likely to be harmful in minute amounts, but can be addicting, and is used (in larger amounts) as an anti-spasmodic.

I agree with those that have suggested a baltic amber teething necklace. We use an anklet and it is truly amazing how well it works.
