Subchorionic Hemorrhage (SCH)

I found out on monday that I have a SCH at 7weeks. The doctor seemed pretty nonchalant about it saying they almost always go away by themselves but I have seen on some other boards stories that have me concerned. Has anyone else out there had this? I go back after Christmas for another ultrasound to check on the progress.

What can I do next?

I had one too, around 7-8 weeks as well. I took it easy, and it resolved itself. I too looked up stuff on the internet and freaked myself into thinking I was having a miscarriage. I hope everything works out for you and that you have a happy and healthy pregnancy.

I did and so did my sister. Everybody is different, but it was about that gestation when I discovered mine (was convinced it was another miscarriage) and I have a 3 yr old to vouch that everything can be fine (and sis just had her son in August). Your doctor will keep an eye on it. Take it easy, but don't freak out. My OB said that brown blood was a good thing - it meant it was old and not a new bleed.

I did this with 5 of my 8 pregnancies. Bedrest---and I mean really bedrest, can be very helpful. BTW, I never had a miscarriage. Two weeks of rest and I was good to go. Best wishes for a healthy baby!

I had one with my second child - it was really bad (i started bleeding uncotrollably around 9 weeks and the ER said I miscarried - went for ultrasound to verify - and there she was) but they can resolve themselves - our daughter made it through and is now a happy crazy little 3 year old monkey.

Take it easy - rest - AND STAY AWAY FROM THE INTERNET. It's full of horror stories that will just make you crazy.

There is no way to fix it and no way to prevent it - so you just need to have faith and take it easy. Good luck!

With this pregnancy alone, I had it at 7 weeks, 12 weeks, and 14 weeks. My OB said the same thing. She said it is actually very common and most women don't know they have it because it's not enough of a bleed to actually make it outside the body and the body absorbs it. She also said it is less common after the first trimester, so she said not to worry (easier said than done!). I also had a true, thought we lost him subchorionic hemorrage at 24 weeks with my second, but in that instance it had to do with riding jet skies (approved by a different OB) where using my stomach muscles to get up on the ski caused it and he is 4 now.

In your case (and mine), if its not a true hemmorage (heavy, bright red blood) and just spotting/smearing on the TP while wiping (pink or brown) or something that only showed up on the ultrasound, things should be okay.

Easier said than done, but take a deep breath and try to relax! Stay off your feet as much as possible.

I did with my 2nd pregnancy. I was about 11 weeks, and started to spot. Went to doctors, they did ultrasound, and found out thats what it was. About a week later, I thought I was going to loose pregnancy, I started to bleed super bad, cramped, went straight to ER,they did another ultrasound, and he was healthy as can be. I did try and do the "bed rest thing" as much as possibler as I has a 5 year old, and I spotted till around 20 weeks, lots of ultrsounds to check on him, but he was healthy and is now a bouncing 2 year old. I too was so freaked out, but it turned out just fine. Best of luck to you and your lil one. Try and rest and put feet up as much as possible, and keep try and think postive :)

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. Not fun at all. I was diagnosed with one in October. It started around five weeks, and I had a long month of bleeding, spotting, cramping, general freaking out. Had a couple of ultrasounds where the baby was growing well, but no change in the SCH, and then after a lot of spotting, I passed what I hoped was the clot. Went for a scan at 10 weeks and it was gone!

From what I've heard/read, it's very common for first trimester
SCHes to resolve by 20 weeks. So you do have good odds, despite all the scary info out there. Hang in there, and feel free to message me if you need any more info.

Edit: I was told the same thing about brown blood being good because it's old stuff coming out. So don't worry if that happens to you.

They are pretty common. Most of them are absorbed back into the uterus. Some may bleed out a bit. The danger with hematomas is directly related to the size of it and what percent it surrounds the gestational sac. It can even be a pretty big size, but you just don't want it going/seeping around the sac which would then cause the sac to break away from the uterine wall. If your OB wasn't concerned then I'm sure it's a fairly small one adjacent to the sac and not a large one surrounding it. I bet you (and the baby) will be just fine! Try to relax and take it easy until your next scan. I bet it'll be a lot smaller.
:) good luck!
