A.J.
I had this with my third pregnancy, and it was caused by a low placenta. The placenta moved up over time and in the later months it was no longer bleeding. They will be able to see a low placenta with an ultrasound.
I am 5 weeks pregnant and started to bleed the other morning. It was just light brown and my OB said it should be fine. Yesterday morning I had red blood with clots, but then no blood flow. This happened again last night and this morning. There is only blood when I wipe, none on maxi pads that I have had on.
This is my 3rd pregnancy. I have never had a miscarriage. I am still nursing my 13 month old son in the morning and at night. It seems like the blood comes a couple hours after nursing.
I have not had any cramping, just indigestion. I plan on going into the OB tomorrow to have a blood test, but I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this and what you think.
I had blood tests done last week and my HCG levels were great. I had an ultrasound today and saw the baby/flicker and they found a heartbeat. The bleeding has stopped and I am feeling great. Thanks for all of your answers and reassurance!

I think this to be normal especially with your still nursing your 13month old.
When nursing our estrogen/progesterone changes and in saying that throws off our systems. If it were a constant bleed then yes I would defenitely have it checked out. I think once you see your OB she will put your mind at ease. Remember as well that your running after your first child, nursing the second and then here we go again. Dont' worry mommie, everything will be fine. Our hormones fluxuate during pregnancy and nursing. I hope this has helped you.
I didn't worry when i started bleeding first trimester, heard it was very common. But three days into it the flow was heavy like a period followed by mild cramping. I had lost the pregnancy at 11 weeks. I have had two first trimester miscarriages and the one thing that sets them apart is the amount of dark blood and clotting. Try not to worry until you get some labs or ultrasound, but first trimester miscarriage is common but so is bleeding with no miscarriage.
I know it is so hard to wait and not know for sure. The only way to be sure if your pregnancy is still intact is to have an ultrasound. An OB should never say "it should be fine" until they have evidence. You will know more tomorrow after seeing the OB.
I had two early miscarriages. With the first one I started bleeding just a little brown blood at about 5-6 weeks. It turned out to be a "blighted ovum" that had never developed into an embryo. The second was at about 8-9 weeks and the blood was redder and with clots. With this one, we had seen the heartbeat on an US just a week prior to the miscarriage happening.
And a lot of women will tell you that they had bleeding with their pregnancies and they've turned out healthy and fine.
Good luck to you.
Only your doctor could tell you if everything is okay. I know many women have this though and deliver healthy babies. One of our daughters had it and when being checked at the hospital found out it was twins and common with them. It is not that abnormal but I would have a doctor check you soon. I would guess that the nursing is making you contract some too from the sound of it. Maybe it's time to wean your son but I'd talk with the doctor about that first too.
It's certainly worth checking out. As others said, it could be hormones & related to the mild uterine cramping from breastfeeding. It could be implantation bleeding. It could be a miscarriage. It also could be, *ahem*, twins. I had this happen with this pregnancy. I had a miscarriage at about 8wk, got pregnant in my 2nd cycle after the miscarriage, and started bleeding again about 7wks. I was worried it was another miscarriage, so I went in for an ultrasound and found out it was implantation bleeding related to twins. Regardless of the reason, it's still worth a doctor visit for the peace of mind in addition to any medical care you might need. Good thoughts coming your way!
I had bleeding in the beginning with my first. It freaked me out but was nothing. It happened a few different times. The first time was brown and then the other times red. They did an ultrasound and everything was fine. No problems throughout hte pregnancy either!
Find out if it might be a subchorionic hemorrhage. I had one with DD and my sister also has one with her current pregnancy. I did bleed some, but they said that as long as it was "old blood" (brown) and not a lot, they'd monitor it and likely everything was fine. It was, obviously. They found it by ultrasound, so if you are concerned, ask them about that option. They stopped worrying at all when DD got bigger then the blood spot.
With my first I had random bleeding like you are describing. It took a few weeks but my OB finally figured out I had a few placental abruptions as well as a low lying placenta (verified by ultrasound). The blood was usually brown and would just sprout up out of nowhere. It was a scary first trimester. At one point, before the OB pinpointed the abruptions, I had more of a bright red gush... Enough blood that the on-call OB told me I was probably miscarrying. Well, long story short, everything actually turned out fine. Once we knew the cause I was put on a very restricted activity plan..... Could only sit and lie down. I was allowed to go to work and sit at my desk but then had to come home and sit dome more. I wasn't even supposed to walk around the block. The bleeding stopped after a few weeks (in the first trimester) and at our 20 week ultrasound I was released from all restrictions as the placenta had migrated!
I hope you get an answer from your doctor tomorrow and that you are able to relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Chances are good that you and baby are both healthy. Good luck.
I'm not a doctor. At five weeks - it could be ANYTHING....implantation bleeding...red blood is usually fresh blood and brown blood is old blood. You could have hemmerhoids (sp)...and the blood is "leaking" down your peritinum (spelling again).
DO NOT STRESS - i know it's easier said than done - but don't think about this....pushing your blood pressure up is not a good thing!!! You'll talk to the Dr tomorrow and see what's up.
