hope this works.. I have two step children who their mom has found out this last month that she has cancer. We will know in the next few weeks a little bit more as of the options available to her. Is there some type of help in our area here that may help my husband i to help our children with the adjustments which are to come for them? Also it is one of her last wishes to take the children to disney world before she passes. I would love to see that happen for them. Is there any type of groups that help with final wishes for cancer patients? thanks so much in advance for your help...
An update: The childrens mother called and she has a fast moving cancer and they have only given a few months time span. Not sure as to any other particulars... Thank you everyone as for advice...

Hi,
Gilda's Club is a wonderful organization that Gilda Radner started. You asked for something "in your area", but didn't state where you are. There is a Gilda's Club in Dallas, http://www.gildasclubtx.org/. It would be well worth the drive. My sister is a social worker and interviewed with them; she thought they were great. All of their services are 100% free! You will likely find someone there who has been in your same situation.
God bless you and your stepchildren.

Step Mom,
I don't know what they are specifically, but if you go online and google "cancer support groups," I know there are several that support both the victim of cancer and the family. There might even be some that help to grant wishes for the person w/cancer.
I hope you all get through this! God bless you!

Yes! There is a great resource in Fort Worth called Cancer Care Services. It provides free financial, social, and emotional support to cancer patients and their families. Give them a call at ###-###-#### for counseling for your husband and children (there are special programs for children, like art therapy, the focus of which is helping kids deal with the changes cancer brings to the family) or you can visit the website: www.cancercareservices.org.
CCS won't be able to help with the Disneyland wish, but might be able to direct you to other organizations that can.
It's a wonderful resource for Tarrant County and I think you, your husband, the children's mom and the children will find great support there.

I will tell you they need alot of love ans support from you and your husband. That is the most important. If, and I hope it does not get this point, but if she passes there is a camp program for kids that are greiving. Camp El Tesoro in Granbury has a wonderful program for greiving children.
I wish you all strength and peace thru this time.
Do you know you can always call 211 on your phone and ask them the question about support groups. If they are unable to help you then let me know and I will ask at school Monday. I am in graduate school for social work & I am sure I can find out something for you.
Hey step mom just thought i would tell you that your an awesome person for being supportive thru this with the ex. Kind of reminds me of the movie step mom with julia roberts in it. You might try callin your local radio stations or news stations to get some idea's on how to make this dream come true. What city are you in? Maybe i can help find some if you tell me what city

What type of cancer, what stage? Just because she has
cancer does not mean she is going to die. Wait to get more details before jumping to that conclusion. I have had breast cancer for 3 years now. Had surgery, had 37 radiation treatments and have had nothing but good check ups since then.
God bless you and your family> Believe me we know how stressful this is.
