I use vinegar. I have a spray bottle of 3/4 vinegar and 1/4 water. If I know something is stained, such as grass stains or ink on my son's jeans, I spray it and then throw it in the laundry hamper to sit until time to wash. Also, I put in 1/2 cup of vinegar with every wash. It keeps clothes from fading, gets rid of stains and odors, and reduces dryer lint and static cling so much that I don't use any fabric softener at all anymore. My laundry has been stain free ever since I started using vinegar.
Vinegar is safe, non-toxic, and inexpensive. A friend of mine uses it instead of bleach because one of her children is allergic to the bleach and her white clothes are still white, stain free, and smell great.

This is the store I shop at and their cleaning and personal care products are non toxic and work. I even used their breath spray to remove ketchup when we were at a restaurant.

I'm a big fan of the Shout Ultra Gel with the scrubby brush at the end of the bottle. This stuff is great on grease stains. Squeeze it on and scrub it in. For "regular" stains I also like the Oxy clean pre-treat spray and I do add a scoop of Oxy clean (generic store brand) to every load. My daughters food stained bibs all get dumped in the laundry without treating since that's what bibs are for. I just make sure she is using an already stained "food" bib when it's going to be something messy. Or at least I try to but that's how I got the "food" bibs in the first place.

Good luck!

For something over the counter, I highly recommend ERA (laundry detergent!) Just put it on the spot and it can sit until you get ready to do the laundry without it hurting your clothes.

There is a product called Incredible. It truly is incredible!! It is available at some HEB's and you can always find it at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It says not to apply directly to clothes, but I have been doing so for 6 years and have yet to experience a problem.

Hope this helps.

My favorite stain remover is Simple green at a concentration of 1/3 of the bottle of simple green to 2/3 of the bottle with water. I was able to hand down most of my childrens' clothes with no stains (including hard to get out ones like spaghetti and grape juice) using this product! It smells awful and you have to wash your clothes as soon as you spray them with it, but it's worth it...

Oh...It also got out hard to remove smells like urine...

Good luck!!! ;-)

K.,
It is not only to find a a product that performs, but also, it SAFE & NON-TOXIC for your family! I strongly reccomend "Get Clean" products. They work wonders, are safe, and cost FAR less than any others I have found. Check out site. www.yourhealthyalternatives.com (Go to Non-Toxic Cleaners on side bar & click on different prompts on that page. Hope this helps...

Use Carbona Stain Devils, the small Yellow Plastic skinny containers in the laundry section of Walmart, Kroger and HEB . They are priceless. They use enzymes which eat the chemicals, but leave the material in tact, and they won't harm your child as they wash out in the wash.

The things that these ladies are telling you to use may work ok, but they are so harmful to your health and your little ones. The stuff thats in them stays in your clothes long after you have washed and dryed them. Alot of them contain phosphates which are horrible to breathe or be near your skin. I have a little one with asthma and eczema and thru some research i have found a "green" alternative that will blow the competiton out of the water, and it won't hurt you or the kids. if you are someone who is concerned about the health and wellfare of your family i would love to share the info with you. You can either email me directly or you can visit the website at http://www.safer4myrugrats.com. have a great day and I hope you will do the research:)

K., I have so wonderful results from OxyClean. Once I found a blueberry stain on my daughters yellow outfit that had been there for 2 weeks when we went camping. I made a lil bit of paste with the OxyClean, rubbed it on, then soaked it overnight in the sink with some more OxyClean. It was completely gone! I have used this method countless times & it never fails!
Good Luck!

We love, love, love Totally Toddler. You can get it at BabiesRUs, or some WalMarts also carry it. This was recommended to me by another mom before my daughter was born. She is now 3 with a baby sister, & it is rare that we have a stain this won't get out. They have a spray bottle you can buy to try it, but if you like it you can buy gallon refill jugs that are much cheaper per ounce & keep refilling your original spray bottle. Hope this helps! :)

I have tried so many things. Greased lightning works the BEST!!! Even (especially) newborn poop. Does not discolor the clothes, just spray as you are putting in the wash then done!!!

I look for things that are more naturally-derived and not so chemical. I also use cloth diapers, so definitely need something that will help with stains.

I use Bac-out (by BioKleen) on diapers and clothes. It works really well to get out stains, and is naturally derived. It has enzymes, food grade lime, water, and vegetable based surfactants. You can easily find Bio Kleen brand products at natural food stores, but I also find it at Kroger in the natural section.

I also use vinegar and baking soda for most of my cleaning. Baking soda sprinkled right on the stain can help, especially when sprayed with vinegar.

I also use a touch of soap occasionally, and a toothbrush. I use a natural soap - Dr. Bronners - because I like natural stuff on my kids' skin.

Oxiclean spray always worked the best for our family. It was great getting out all kinds of nasty things that stain with babies and when my husband got into a car accident and got blood on his clothes it all came out. For stains that are extra tough I would spray them let them sit a little while and then spray once more before washing.

Hi K.!
I've used Shout & Spray & Wash but they never impressed me. I saw Dreft Stain Remover & gave it a try - it works great!! Much better than the others & it's safe for the baby! Good luck!
ps....I also plan on trying the vinegar idea someone gave you. I'm a firm believer in the powers of vinegar, just never thought to use it in laundry!

I was introduced to this wellness company who produce all natural non toxic products. Now, what's so amazing about this company is that they have great laundry detergents and etc and their prodcuts are 100% safe. Since i have little one's running around, the more safer things are the better. If you would like to know more just send me a request at my website. www.freedom2benatural.com

Totally Toddler sold at Walmart in the child clothes section is great for removing all kinds of stains especially formula stains. You can buy the jug and be sure to get the refill jug with it because it is very hard to find. I guess everyone uses it. LOL. I used Wisk on my kids clothes when they were little. Wish I'd had TT back then! Hope this helps. S. W

I have always had good luck with Shout in the bottle with the scrubby on the top. I used to use Spray N Wash (what my mom always used), but you can't spray it and let it sit until washing day. I ruined clothes because of it fading where the spray was.

I have had some instances with Shout that all of the stain didn't come out the first time. But, I would put more on it and wash the article again and it came out. I have a messy husband and 6 year old son.

While at my mom's visiting I used her Shout in the spray bottle. I found it works too. But, if you have something really soaked in I have found that the scrubber works best.

I use Spray 'n' Wash or Stain Out, I think they both work about the same, so I just buy whatever's cheaper at the time =)
