I am going to Costa Rica in a week in a half and I am really pale, I have really fair skin and I am nursing. Wanted to know if anyone knows a good place (i live in bensenville- near elmhurst/wood dale), what it costs and if anyone has done any research about the health inplications (chemicals in the skin). thanks!

Totally safe, and i've done it many times, though it is not a good base tan will not help you to not burn. You'll still need a sunscreen with a 30+ SPF especially if you are really pale. I have very fair skin and use SFP 50 and still get color. It costs around $20 per time, and there is a salon in Elmhurst on York and Butterfield called:
Planet Beach Spa & Tanning
211 E Butterfield Rd ###-###-####

I've never thought to do it, but my guess is it's not going to prevent you from burning once you get there. I don't see the spray tan having any UV-A and UV-B protection. If I had to do it, I would go a few times to the tanning bed to get your skin a bit of color.

Spray tanning is for those who are never or rarely in the sun. I recommend you just get the high SPF sun block. Even with that, you'll get a little sun.

I'd say don't waste your money on spray tanning.

While on vacation, you should protect your skin and limit your time in the sun. Even on cloudy days and shade, there is still a good chance you'll get color.

I just got back from Jamaica in March and did just that. I laid in the shade alot and managed to get a tan. Alot of those days were cloudy, and you don't feel the sun on your skin, but you still are getting the sun. I did'nt tan before I left and used SPF 30 and gradually reduced the SPF as the week went by.

Have fun, the sun is strong down there.

I've never done it myself but a good friend of mine did it even when she was pregnant and her doc said OK, so I'm assuming it's OK. :) Have a fun trip, I'm so jealous!

Hi B.,

Any tanning salon will have what they call the "mystic" tan. It is an all over spray tan and lasts for a while. I do not believe it would be harmful to you or the baby, because of nursing. La Tan is a big name in tanning, I would see if they have a location near you.

In the meantime I have a quetion for you.....My Fiance and I are thinking about going to Costa Rica for our honeymoon. Any suggestions on where to stay and where not to? Can you email me @ ____@____.com. I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
J.

Hi B.,

After several years of searching for a product that does not stink horribly, or turn me orange. Last year I found a product called Sun Solate. It's a spray mist in a can. (the lotions are greasy and get all over your hands) My husband and I will spray tan before we go on vacation and then take a can with us to touch up. You can find it at some tanning places. Our plastic surgery patients love it as well. I think their web address is www.Solatte.com they should be able to give you a place that sells it near you.

Have a great time in Costa Rica, I hear it's beautiful. But don't forget to wear sunscreen. :)

Sincerely,
K. Bazell
