Our 3 yrs old daughter quit the pacifier 3 weeks ago. Ever since she is having trouble getting to sleep by herself. Either me or my wife need to lie down in bed with her until she falls asleep. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

It may help to find a new comfort item for her. A stuffed toy, doll or special blanket. My girls got new "cuddle blankets" when they gave up the paci.

Buy her a cd player and play music, or you can get her a portable cd player with headphones. Music can be a great way to distract her and help to soothe her to sleep. My children always went to sleep with music playing. Have her pick a favorite stuffed animal to sleep with and just be reassuring to her about what a big girl she is and stay firm about. Getting rid of one habit and starting another is probably not a good idea. She is old enough to put herself asleep independently. Good luck

My question to the Good Doctor who said that the child should continue to suck on the pacifier....
My 3 yr. olds's dentist showed me the way my child's teeth are turning into his mouth, how his bite is behind his bottom teeth, not placed properly...
So tell me - who is right?

Your daughter is having trouble sleeping because she no longer has pacifier. I would give her a stuffed animal, play a soft music on radio, leave a night light on. Sleeping with her to get her to go to sleep will make it harder on yourself. This is something she will get used to real quick and you will be doing it for a long time. It might even be best to just get a chair or something rather than lying beside her just so she knows your there. Put her into bed, get a childrens' book out and read her a story, before it ends she'll be asleep. Reading is excellent for them prior to sleeping. Be sure to keep her sleep hours on a regular basis for at least the first 3-4 mos. she will then know, and be tired about that same time. Good luck!!

When you said she quit- did you mean you took it away from her? If so - give it back. The sucking motion gentles the cranial bones, and is very calming.
