We had the same experience as Love my Boys. But we opted to send it back. It still cost us $450. The cheap air mattresses from Walmart are more comfortable.
Hi Ladies,
. My question is do you own one and how do you like it. We have a sleep number that we have had for a year but every time we go to bed we fall in "the pit " as we call it where the middle of the bed sags so much you have no choice but to fall into it. I have called the company and they sent another middle support which is not helping. My husbands side is set at 30 and my is at 40. Hoping maybe someone has some good Ideas on how to fix it. Thanks T.

No ideas really for you, but I just wanted to say I feel your pain! My husband and I went to their store and laid on one, and it seemed like a good comfortable bed so we bought one. And now at home we hate it! It's not comfortable, and doesnt even feel, or seem like the same bed they have in the store that we laid on!
We called and they sent us a thicker foam topper but it still sucks. I seriously wish we never bought that bed... What a waste of money in my opinion!
My sister just sold her a couple months ago at a ridicuilously price compared to what they paid for it....which was alot. Just like you and many couples...each side of the bed was set differently. And there you go....you tend to roll to the middle. They hated it for the same reasons you stated. They are now back to a regular bed.
Sleep number beds are great if you sleep alone. My husband and I have ours set on 60 & 30 but his 60 feels like 90 or higher to me. Since they are essentially an air mattress, your weigt affects it. Since he is considerably heavier than me, his weight makes mine feel harder which is why it is set on 30. Unless we each lay completely on our side, nowhere near the middle, there is a proble. They sent me the extra middle support too but that created a raised middle but doesn't solve the problem that my side is like a pit and his side feels too hard...this causes him to roll to my side, making my pit worse and me less comfortable. HATE IT!
I regret the purchase of a sleep number bed. My husband loves it. It took me a year to realize I didn't like it. I like soft, but there is no soft setting, just saggy setting (30-40). My husband insisted we get one when I was pregnant because he wanted me to be comfortable and he likes a firm mattress (so he claimed, but found him using my same sleep number). We didn't have trouble with the middle support. However, it cut our snuggling life to a grinding hault because the middle it too firm. Its an overhyped bed. Phewy! I'd replace it if we weren't invested $3000 in the thing.
Update: This reminded me to check Epinions.com and see who else hates their sleep number. There are a lot of us. The problem you have gets addressed often though. take a look at what some of the people did to fix it.
Me & my ex had one (he took it) & I didn't think I was crazy about it until it was gone (I think it was just him I wasn't crazy about ;). I totally miss it. I can say we had the top of the line California King pillow top, dual controls, etc (cost around $2400 back in '04/05) & he made me buy our son a basic twin one (which was $200). I still have the basic twin one & it is just a glorified air mattress. My son has never liked it. I don't think I would have liked the other one as much if it was the more basic bed. Also, it's not supposed to matter but we are smaller people, with him being 5'4", 125lbs & me being 5'4" and 135lbs. Is there padding between the two air chambers?? I can't remember. I was thinking ours had two separate air chambers & there was "padding" that ran between them..maybe that is breaking down, but at that cost, that is ridiculous!! That's the only thing I could think of...
I had one years ago, hated it, always ended up in the "hole" in the middle and I slept alone in Queen size. Got rid of it at garage sale, took huge "loss".
Am now looking at the Tempur-Pedic, haven't decided.

Hi, we had a similar problem and what we did was add two firm pieces of foam to the OUTSIDE of the bed, running the whole length of the bed. Maybe now that you have two middle pieces, you could put them on the outside. It just takes up volume and forces the two sides of the bed to stay close at the middle, whatever the firmness you choose. We found it did not affect our comfort level to have 4 inches of firmness on the outside of the bed, even though my hubby likes his side of the bed soft.
We happened to have foam that worked for this need, It is not what I would call an everyday thing you would have around the house, but I hope our idea helps you.
