Single Stsream Recycling

Do they really separate it out later and how exactly do they do that????

Next question, cuz this is debated about in our house, do you rinse out your can's etc if you are putting it in say less than 6 hrs before it is to be picked up. I think we can agree that rinsing makes sense for a smell and animal attraction issue, but son questions if it is necessary for any reason once it leaves our driveway.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

They really do! You should clean anything (rinse well) that goes in the recycling.

I just saw a thing on our local news show that showed the big machines at the recycling plant and how they worked. It was super interesting! I love our new big trashcan that I can just throw (just about) everything in! It's fantastic.

The recycling center does sort the SSR once at their facility.

Rinsing is nice but not necessary...they should be emptied though.

our recycled products have to be clean or they're thrown into our trashcan. :)

I always rinse, if only for the courtesy of those dumping our bins. Who wants to empty a bin and get splashed with food residue? Gross!

We don't rinse them. Not sure how they separate them out.

Here where we live there is single stream recycle. And it needs to be rinsed. Boxes can not have food stains.. Grease, melted cheese etc..

Ours are plastics, glass and paper/cardboard. There are rules about the types of plastic and paper/cardboard.

And so our recycle can inside looks brand new and has no odors.. This is the 4th or 5th year with this can.

They showed on the news how they separate the different materials.. It is like a giant magnet, a sifting, apparatus and other special sorting belts..

Very interesting and a big business, but still expensive for our city.. ..
