Silly Putty Stuck in Corduroy Dress

The company that used to make silly putty is now owned by Crayola. They have a wonderful page on their website about getting their products out of things. (Hope this is helpful) This is what they say:

How to remove Silly Putty® from fabric:

Cleaning Materials
Dull knife or metal spoon
WD-40® (car part lubricant)
Liquid dishwashing detergent
Cotton balls
Rubbing alcohol
Soft cloth or sponge

Stain Removal Tips
Scrape off excess Silly Putty with a dull-edge knife or metal spoon. Spray with WD-40 and let stand a few minutes. Scrape excess Silly Putty with dull-edge knife or metal spoon. Respray with WD-40 and wipe off stain with cotton balls. If any stain remains, saturate a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol, blot the stain and rinse. Wipe any remaining residue or remaining stain with a damp sponge or cloth moistened with liquid dishwashing detergent.

I would think that if you froze it, it would break off pretty easily. I have never had that problem, but that would be my guess to the solution.

You can also get a walmart a cleaner call De-Solv-It. It's one of those orange based products. It will get the silly putty out. I used it on my carpet because one of the kids got silly putty in my rug. It got it out very nicely

S., definitely freeze it. FYI, this trick works well on gum and candy too!

I was going to suggest putting ice on it. But like the other mom said, maybe freezing it? I would think it would be pretty easy to scrape off then. Good luck!

Try using vegetable oil. Let the oil sit on the putty for 20 min, then scrape it off. You'll probably have to use shout or something on the oil left on the dress afterwards. This is also the most surefire way to get gum out of hair.

Hi S., Try freezing the dress then use a comb to remove the frozen silly putty. It should work. Good luck.
