Side Effects of a Tubal......

I am due to give birth to my second child in 4 weeks. Up until last week, when Summer B posted her message "tubes tied or not?" I was 150% sure I wanted a tubal. Now I am all freaked out about it! I work in an OBGYN office, and really, side effects of a tubal is something that women don't really talk about. My husband and I know that we don't want any more kids. We have our boy and our girl on the way. That is enough when you start thinking about sending them to college. I am having a c-section, so we thought, since my husband can not have a vasectomy, due to medication he takes, a tubal "while they are in there" would be the way to go. I have terrible problems with taking any form of BC, my body just doesn't like hormones. But after Summers post, I read up on it, and it can cause severe PMS symptoms, depression, heavy or no periods. *sigh* What to do, what to do? Can I hear some GOOD stories of women who love that they got a tubal? All but 3 people that I know, had their husbands get a vasectomy. 1 of of the 3 girls has regrets, the other got very depressed afterward, and the last one has had terrible hormonal problems ever since.......*sigh* My next OB appt is Tuesday. I will talk to my Dr about it then.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I went through with the tubal......the pro out weighed the cons. Thanks for the responses! I am kind of sad tho, knowing that I will never be pregnant again. But I know I will get over it! :o) Two is plenty!

Hi I had a tubal and c-section 8 months ago. My periods are much heavier than they were before but not bad enough that I regret doing it. i am not even sure it is from the tubal. I am sure everyone is different but from my experience I am glad I did it. Good luck to you.

Hi J., I got my tubal done after my last child and I have not had any problems. just remember everyone is different.one thing might go one way for someone and not for the other. my sister in law got depression but her doc said she probaly was already depressed before she got hers done not even knowing she was depressed. if you are not really sure maybe look into a Iud until you know for sure this is something that you want to do.then that way you don't have to worry about any birth control. i had one with my first daughter it was the best thing i did and all i had to do once amonth is check for the string.because i was just like you i would forget or i would wonder if i already took it. it was a mess so i went in got the iud then had it for 3 1/2 yrs then took it out to get pregnant.well i hope i gave you something to think about good luck to you.

Never had a tubal myself, but my mother did and she never once complained about it.

I had a tubal 18 months ago, for exactly the reasons you are considering: I had my girl, and my boy, and I was having a c-sec , so why not do it while they already have me open? I haven't noticed increased PMS symptoms, and altho my periods are heavier than they were while on b/c, I cant say if they are heavier than a "normal" period, cuz my b/c caused my periods to be practically non-existant. If you are sure you really don't want more kids, have the tubal done. It will save $$ on the b/c and prevent "accidental" pregnancies from bc failure. Plus... you won't be tempted to have "just one more" when your baby gets a little bigger and you see newborns in the stores.
