I have a large pile of papers that I need to shred. It has been piling up for a few months. In the past I have coincidentally come across shred events in the community. However lately I have not. I want to buy a shredder eventually but now there is so much to shred I just want to get rid of this huge pile quickly. Does anyone know of an upcoming community (free) shred event or how to find out about one. I have checked a few shredding companies online and emailed to see if they do a community shred event and have received no responses from them. Help! The pile is growing as this goes out!
Thank you to everyone who gave me some great resources for shredding. It has helped me out alot. I am so glad that there are some events coming up soon. Here is what I found out. Frisco does a Chunk Your Junk event on Nov. 15 from 8-12. Line cuts off at 11:30. The address is 6616 Walnut St. For directions call ###-###-####. Check their website for the details of the event. Next someone suggested contacting the Special Education Department of your local school. Sometimes the students with special needs will shredd. This helps with job skills. Check with your banks also. Texans Credit Union in McKinney has done free shredd events in the past. Finally CCCS of North Central Texas in McKinney is tentatively planning an ID theft information event and shredd event on Oct. 25 at 901 North McDonald in McKinney. Check the community calendar in McKinney to find out for sure if they will have this event and to verify the date. Again thank you so much to everyone who responded. Your information has solved my shredding problem!
If you find out about a shredding event, please let me know. We moved here last November from out of state and I have accumulated a big tub and 2 large bags of things that need to be shredded. I have a shredder but after too much use it overheats and stops working until it cools down. Needless to say it's a very long process and I don't have much patience for it so I would definitely be interested in a shredding event.

I work with CCCS of North Central Texas in McKinney and we are working on putting an ID Theft info and shred event together for October 25th. At this time we are still working out all the details and I hope to have this on the communnity calendars and the radio public annonuncements as soon as we are finalized. Do not risk identity theft by tossing your personal information in the trash. A free paper shredding service will also be on site to safely recycle unwanted documents. There is a four-box limit per household, with box size not to exceed 12" W x 15.5" L x 10.5” H. We cannot accept commercial paperwork.
I don't know if they check to make sure you are a resident or not, but if you are not a resident maybe your town also does something like this. Good luck!
Our bank just had a free shredding event on Saturday. You may want to contact your bank to see if they have anything similar.
I bought a shredder at Staples about 6 yes ago for less than $50. I shred everything that has our name on it about once a month. I'm soon to burn this one out and shopping for a better one. It is worth the investment.
I saw a sign at Texans Credit Union in McKinney that they are having a Shred Day. It is free. I'm not sure if they are doing it at all their locations but you could check into that.

Oh so glad to hear someone else is in this same position! I would appreciate if you could let me know if you come across anything.
You might want to check with your local school district. Some schools have their students with severe special needs do shredding in a centralized location. This helps the school (and possibly community) and teaches the students a job skill for when they are old enough to get out of public education.
I would recommend contacting the Special Education department for the district or possibly one of the high schools.
