Hi, we are looking for a preschool that has a great program for our 3-year old boy. He loves being active and playing outside. We need a program with great hours. We also do not want the preschool to be religious-based.

What can I do next?

Depending on what hours you are looking for the City of Walnut Creek Park and Recreation Department has preschool programs as does the Lindsey Museum. Sounds like you have lots of wonderful options.

We are in our second year at the preschool run by the Pleasant Hill Parks and Rec Department. It is a great school with 5 or 6 different programs depending on hours wanted and age. It is a developmental program that focuses on learning through play and getting the children socially ready for school.

What do you consider great hours? For 1/2 day programs, I highly recommend MaryJane's preschool on the corner of Geary Rd and Vessing right on the WC/PH border. For 1/2 or full day programs, we enjoyed Alice's Montessori school which is right near the Safeway on Putnam Rd. I would definitely check out the preschool fair, and also consider some kindergarten options. Some preschools offer Pre-k, and K, some don't. Depending on your son's bday, he may be in preschool for two more years, and you don't want him to be bored.

Our daughter went to Pied Piper in Walnut Creek. It is a co-op, which meant it was a bit cheaper & always lots of adults around. We choose it because they had a great backyard/play area & ended up really enjoying the co-op aspect of it. The PH/WC Preschool Fair is January 10th at the Pleasnt Hill Community Center - 350 Civic Drive in Pleasant Hill, behind the police station. It has preschools from all around the area - PH, WC, Cncrd...

Don't know if you would be interested in a parent cooperative (where you volunteer a couple of days a month), but we have loved Clayton Valley Parent Preschool in Concord. Our oldest is on her third year (she started at 2), and our youngest will be starting next year. There will be a preschool fair in Pleasant Hill very soon...I believe next weekend. Look online for the Pleasant Hill Walnut Creek Mother's Club, they should have information. Good luck!
