Hi, I am 4 days late and my husband had a vasectomy 4 months ago, but has yet to be tested again to make sure he is clear. Is it still possible to get pregnant or could this just be a stress thing. Reason being is we don't.....finish like normal if you were trying, but I also started working again 4 weeks ago. Can anyone give me any advice on what they think? I'm going to buy a test in a few days, just to give my body time to see if I get my Period.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your advice. I took three tests and they all came up Neg. so I'll just have to destress myself. I started my PD on the St. Patty's Day.
Thank you all again!

Same thing happened to my aunt and Uncle. He never went for his follow-up and she got pregnant with her 3rd boy. That was 22 years ago! Good luck

It could be stress, but it is possible you are pregnant. I have a cousin who was conceived after a vasectomy but before the "waiting" period was up. Get the test, if it will ease your mind.

Hi, J.!
It can actually take up to SIX MONTHS for all those little suckers to die off! (That shocked me! Our son was born 7 mos ago & we STILL need to make an appt for my hubbie. I thought once it was done it would be "done" pretty soon after & was very surprised to find out otherwise!)
Wouldn't hurt to get a pregnancy test to be sure.
Good luck either way!!!

J.,
It is possible that you could be. My best friend used to work for a urologist and they do not always work the first time. My husband had a vasectomy and I did also go through one of these "scares". I got my period the day after I took the test. Just hang in there and make him go get the last test to ensure it was 100% successful.

Good luck!

In the future (and especially in light of all these surprises people posted about), you may want to consider charting your cycles - just so you can be more in tune w/ your body. When you chart, you know if ovulation is delayed - which is common when you're stressed. And if you ovulate late, then your period will be late...and you'll be expecting that instead of worrying about it.
Just something to think about.

The doctors should have told you that it takes a few months for the vasectomy to be effective. It is possible you are just late. But it is also possible that you are pregnant. Get a pregnancy test just to be sure.

Good luck!

Most likely starting work has messed up your cycle a bit. It's also normal to have a wonky cycle from time to time. I would definately test to be sure, and get your hubby in there for his follow-up.

It really could be a stress thing. We went though the same thing a couple of times. Relax, take a deep breath and take the test if only just to ease your mind.

J., I'd get the test. If your husband hasn't been checked to see if everything "took", it's still up in the air. My husband had a vasectomy but I still worried for almost a year.

Hi J.-
yes, a late period is stress related. and being that you just went back to work, that would be stress! you could wait up to a week due to stress even 10 days or more.
so best thing to do is not stress over being late, get more sleep, deep breathing, plan the days better so you don't feel overwhelmed and make sure you get enough good quality protiens, pleny of green vegetables (for calcium/magnesium to help calm you) adn veggies (for teh antiozidants). and don't forget to drink enough water as well.
so don't worry much about it and just do some stress relieving techniques - you'l be fine. but that is the nice thing abotu the monthly cycle - if it is late or early then you know something is not right with the body.

hope that helps!

J.,
A vasectomy is not 100% fail proof. My close friend still became pregnant after her husband had a vasectomy. Still, I would recommend that you check with your OB/GYN and have your husband get checked to ensure that they vasectomy worked.

Hi J.,

I have a son named Noah who turned 18 in December. He was born 7 years after his father had a vasectomy. I also know a little girl born a few years after her mom got her tubes tied. Those procedures are not guarenteed 100% either... sorry. The best advice I can give you is to not worry about it. One way or the other it's too late to change. Just pray the the Lord helps you deal with and handle the outcome of the situation...

good luck and God Bless you,
S.

Hi J.,

I would definately call your GYN, from my own experience and knowledge women's bodies go thru many changes in your thirties, acne, hot flashes mood swings. Take the pregnancy test but they are not always accurate. The GYN can give you a blood test which you can have done now. Keep the faith, all will be well.

It takes BOTH 3 months AND 25 ejaculations to clear out those little swimmers! You may need a pregnancy test! If you are not pregnant...please get him tested! I'm sure he would not have wanted to go through all that for nothing!
