We have just moved from the West Coast and have no furniture. We are about to rent a house (not big) and are looking for clean, comfortable furniture. We are looking for eveything, dishes, couch, nearly new bed (preferably a king) vacume etc. We do not need clothes, we don't need anytning fancy just clean and comfortable and somewhat reasonable. Let me know, we currenly live in Schaumburg but are moving to a house in St. Charles. Thanks so much for any referrals. My direct email ____@____.com Thanks, K.

K.,
Our house burnt down in early January. We have gotten a huge amount of donations. If you're interestd, I could give you a nice set of dishes (we got 2 sets) and possibly some furniture. Also, you should checkout the St. Vincent DePaul warehouse for great, low cost lightly used furniture. Call Holy Cross parish in Batavia for details ###-###-####, I think).

On Roselle Road there is a shop called Used To Be Mew Furniture that usually has all kinds of cute things. It's in between Wise Rd and Weathersfield Way in a strip mall that has a cleaners and a Taco Bell in the parking lot. The thrift store in the Auto Zone strip mall on Roselle and Weathersfield Way usually has household goods. (I got the cutest set of dishes from there for 5 bucks), There is also a thrift store in the Riccardo's strip mall on Roselle and Wise Rds that have furniture. If it hasn't closed yet there is a furniture store on Roselle Rd next door to Malnati's at Roselle and Schaumburg roads that was having a going out of business sale not to long ago. It's a long low blue building. You can try Craigslist.org too. They have for sale sections and a free section. You can also try your local freecycle- you have to join the group but then after that you get emails every day with things people are giving away. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Hi K.,

if you don't mind used furniture, did you ever look on Craigslist? We've bought a bunch of stuff for our house from this site (sorta like eBay but you get to see everything before purchasing 'cuz everything should be near your home). www.craigslist.org (then click on chicago).

You can also get used hotel furniture downtown at the Cooper Building: 1929-33 S. Halsted St., Chicago ###-###-####). Some of their stuff (like mattress) are new and still in the plastic wrap.

Have fun shopping.

Hi, K.! You can also find pretty decent stuff at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Just go to Habitat for Humanity's website and look a ReStore in your area. There's one in Elgin on Route 31 - I'm not sure if there's one closer to St. Charles than that. A few months ago, we purchased a sectional sofa w/pull-out sleeper, brought it home, had it professionally cleaned for $65 and it's great. They have nearly everything for the do-it-yourselfer and also kitchen tables and chairs, lighting, anything that's in good shape that people donate to them. All of the proceeds go to buying material to build new homes for Habitat. Get a good deal and give to charity all at the same time. Good Luck!

K.,
There is a used furniture store in Barrington. A little north of you, but you can look on their website to see if anything might jump out at you. You can then call and see what the price is, and if it's available. They may negotiate the price, they usually offer a "cash" price. www.barringtonresale.com
There are lots of thrift stores around. I believe there is one in downtown Dundee, near the candy store on rt. 72. I might have the route wrong, it's been a while since I've been over there.
There use to be two stores, one sold beds, one sold discounted new furniture, near the library. The two stores were on the opposite corners of Roselle and Schaumburg roads. The one that sold the furniture was across the street/towards the corner from the front of the library.
There is also a Value City furniture in Hanover park. New furniture, cheaper than most furniture stores... not sure on brands.
We are fans of Craigslist too.

K. good luck with your move! I would recommend checking out craigslist.com and signing up for freecycle.org for the area. Both are wonderful sites. On craigslist you can find great deals on slightly used things or somethings can even be free. Freecycle is a site where you can list free things you want to give away or request things that you are looking for for free.

Since you are in the Schaumburg area now, you might want to check out the Wings store on Higgins a few blocks east of the Golf/Higgins intersection. (http://www.wingsprogram.com/resale.htm) They had quite a few nice dresser sets with the dovetailed drawers for under $200 I think. And there was a nice desk at The Shelter Inc thrift shop on Roselle south Weathersfield I think.(http://www.shelter-inc.org/shelter,_inc_,_thrift_shop.htm)

My sister and I were doing some Toy shopping for her church festival yesterday and I was sad I had no room for some of the furniture I saw.
