My son is going to be six months old November 1st. He was covered under Medi Cal up until recently. I need to get him insured immediately and have absolutely no idea how to even begin choosing coverage. I have ZERO experience in dealing with Health Insurance agencies. Any suggestions?

Hi K.,

I had my child covered under Healthy Families for quite a while when my husband lost his job. It's very low cost or free. In my case it was about $6 per month. My son got to keep his regular doctor too. It's been a while since I used the program and things may have changed, so I've included the link for you.

Good luck!

Call the offices that you are interested, interview the practice and maybe the doctors and ask them what insurance they take. You may need to insure him separately.

K.,
Yes Healthy Famillies should work for you if you were recently eligible for Medi Cal. You can apply on your own through the site: http://healthyfamilies.ca.gov/HFProgram/

Hi K.,
I would have to agree that Healthy Families is the best way to go. The monthly is very low. My 3 youngest kids are all covered and I only pay $14.00 per month for all 3. Great Dr.s also. Good luck.
